Early look: Chrysler ecoVoyager Concept

11/20/2007, 3:24 PM

By Drew Johnson

Chrysler has released a sketch of its ecoVoyager Concept, set to debut at January’s Detroit Auto Show. Continuing the green theme of the most recent auto shows, the ecoVoyager is a four-door, four-passenger vehicle powered by lithium-ion batteries with a hydrogen fuel cell that serves as a range extender — similar to the gasoline engine setup in the Chevrolet Volt.

With the aid of the fuel cell, Chrysler claims the ecoVoyager has a range of 300 miles.

Because of the compact drivetrain, Chrysler was able to give the ecoVoyager plenty of interior space, which is rumored to be designed after a luxury jet.

Check back for more details and specs after the ecoVoyager’s official debut in January.

Does Chrysler actually HAVE a working fuel cell system, or is this just an on-paper drivetrain?

Seriously, Chrysler, your cars are not attractive. Need to find a new visual brand language.

Excuse me, if all these things are powered by batteries/hydrogen or dilithium crystals, what the f*ck do they even need a grill for?

That grill is just a decal. Nothing more.

The grille is not very Chrysler. It looks a bad rip-off/”inspiration” drawn from Cadillac grilles.

CA36GTP, you raise a good question.
Commodore, at first glance, I really thought it was Cadillac concept.
I cannot see Chrysler using the lima bean body for any reason. Maybe the face part.

Why are they reviving a model name (Voyager) that was used on a minivan that spent most of its market life in the lineup of the company’s now defunct affordable division? I’m assuming that the main goal of this concept is to highlight the company’s alternative fuel technology. Why would you recycle a model name from the archives that conveys such a dowdy image and apply it to a technologically advanced concept? WEIRD!

I know it’s just a sketch and the actual concept may look substantially different, but what is up with the Nissan Sentra headlight homage? That element bothers me much more than the Cadillac knockoff grille.

I’m guessing I’m the only one who can’t see the pictures aside from the headliner, strange.

I think part of the reason why their using the name, mazdaman, is their 90′ Voyager concept. It was a two part vehicle, one part with the engine and the other like a trailer. I suppose the Voyager has composed new ideas for Chrysler.

You still need some sort of cooling for the batteries.
