Chrysler extends gasoline rebate program again

07/02/2008, 8:42 AM

Chrysler on Tuesday announced it would extend its gasoline rebate program yet again, now until July 31. Back in May, the deal, which guarantees gasoline at $2.99 per gallon with some restrictions, was extended until July 7.

The automaker’s June sales are down by a whopping 36 percent from 2007 overall, but the company claims increased sales of fuel efficient models such as the Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot (up by 18 percent combined), and Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan (27 percent).

The gas guarantee bundles a gas card that gives customers of selected new vehicles $2.99 per gallon gas for three years and some cash back incentives. Chrysler also gives buyers the option of more cash back or 0 percent APR financing.

“During difficult periods like this, it is critical that we continue to evolve our products to meet our customers’ needs and as a result, be a stronger company when the economy recovers,” said Jim Press, President and Vice-Chairman of Chrysler.

At least 79 people out there couldn’t be bothered by high gas prices, as sales of the Dodge Viper — packing an 8.3-liter V8 and EPA-rated at 13 mpg city, 22 mph highway — are up 259 percent from last June and 139 percent year-to-date.

Who cares how long they extend this? It’s still not going to help them sell the crap they produce — crap not including Viper of course.

I’d bet the rise in Viper sales is due to speculation that soon there may no longer be one, or any other Chrysler product for that matter.

im a little lost here and please excuse that, but if dodge has the Viper and not Chrysler, why does Chrysler have a say if the Viper stays around or not? i know Dodge and Chrysler share platforms and all, but does Chrysler own more stake in Dodge to kill off the Viper? sorry for my confused self here…..

Chrysler, Dodge, & Jeep are the same company Jumpoffit. They have one board of directors. The three combined are generally referred to as just Chrysler.
