They should have just completely redone the Neon instead of the crappy caliber. Stick the neon with a cool looking & aggressive look w/a sweet interior, the option of an eco-friendly engine, mid-pack engine, & a sweet R/T option (obviously SRT would follow) and it would still be a popular little car. The caliber is hardly a “replacement” for the neon. IT sucks…

You took the words right outta my mouth! When I saw the crapliber I couldn’t understand what they were thinking. It’s just ugly! How could they go from the Neon SRT 4 to that??? Would have been much better to work with what they had instead of tossing the baby with the bath water.

Live axle is old, and has other issues, that is why Ford is finally working on a new rwd platform to finally replace the Mustang’s old one, and to underpin a replacment for the Crown Vic, and Town Car (but will likely use EcoBoost engines to ensure high mpg).

Chrysler always had a good studio (design). I don’t know what left of it after all the tribulations company went through, but if they still have some talent, Versa/Megane can be a decent ride if they can improve on the theme. If Chrysler will build it themselves they may even get a better car – Versa, I believe, is made in Mexico, so it is not difficult to improve the quality.

Yes, everyone go an get an ugly on the outside and inside Ford Focus, the not as good on milage as the competition Ford Fusion, the car with the ancient live rear axle Mustang, or the no personality Taurus.

The platform is the Versa, but the sheetmetal and pretty much everything else will be Chrysler exclusive.

I like small cars. Chrysler doesn’t have what I would call a small car(I did get a Neon, right before they got rid of them,for a rental..not bad. 33 MPG, and felt fairly quick. Was acceptable handling, noise, nvh…etc..).
Hmmm… a 3 door might have been interesting(Neon, updated).
The 2 door hard top coupe PT thing they had at the autoshows a few years ago had a lot of people checking it out…too bad they did not see a reason to build something like it, or the Hornet.
They need a small vehicle(car-like) asap.
Someone said a Nissan Versa may become a Dodge next year?
The Versa is tolerable to drive(CVT).
Decent MPG(33-35?). Price isn’t too horrendous.
Maybe Chrysler can do something with it?

JoshyLofty & autonut: the Chrysler ‘world’ engines are good power plants. The DOHC 2.0 in my ’95 Neon puts out 150 horse. The 1.8 in the Caliber puts out 148 (too bad other than the SRT it’s the only one available with a manual) so output is not the issue. I to am baffled why they didn’t keep the Neon name. In Canada they even changed the name to SX 2.0 from ’03 on. I’m going to play my broken record one more time, but why can’t Detroit get it though their thick sculls that by changing the ident of what is essentially the same car it replaces all you’re doing is confusing your customers. C’mon: Civic, Corolla etc, etc, etc…

They are the same engines as used by Hyundai and Mitsu because all three developed them together, but Chrysler has horrible V6 engines and they did not tune the inline 4s for the most fuel efficiency.

Jigs, I am Honda fan, but I don’t think engines are Chrysler Achilles’ heel: they just released 3 variations of 4 cylinder engine (1.8, 2.0 and 2.4 L) and I haven’t read any horror stories. Also, those are the same engines as Mitsubishi and Hyundai are using in their cars. Engines are not the issue here: lack of cars utilizing those engines is a problem.

I love dodge its a shame the old men dont understand times change and put more economical engins in, do a deal with honda/Acura and learn from them about the Vtec engin and how to make cars more econimical and build cars as sexy as the new challanger! no these crappy boxy goofie lookin mpvs
