Luca, In Italy last spring. Europeans seem to be very loyal to their own manufactures unlike liberals in the U.S whom seem to do whatever anyone else is doing and being told. I noticed alot of Chyslers when I was there. Chrysler mini-vans, Dodge Magnums rebadged as 300'S and Grand Cherokee's. Japanese automakers are smart, they make most of there money here in the U.S. I even saw a Durango once. Awesome country by the way, scenery is amazing.

A reply to Commodore. I'm italian, my family owns only GM-Opel cars and I wonder why You think italians buy trash like chinese cars. It's false just like it's false we buy trash cars from other asiatic countries, In fact if you analize Italy's car market You won't find any brand from China. About japanese trash, korean trash and whatever those numbers are very low compare to USA. Toyota is a minor player even if it spends millions in ads, Nissan and Honda merely exist, Lexus is unknown as a brand, Hyundai or Kia the same. In Italy we buy european cars, mostly from german brands like Opel, Ford, VW group, Mercedes, BMW. Then from french brands Renault and PSA, finally from FIAT group whose recent models are all but trash and reached 33% market sales. Chrysler has a very good name in Italy for many reason: diesel engines are produced in Italy by VM, styling and design are gorgeusly american (not blendish/boring j-sense as Lexus/Toyota/undistinguishble asiatics designs that some Californians like so much) finally price for quality. Any Jeep costs much less than a comparable SUV from Germany or Japan and quality is he same, plus design is much better than japanese trash and not as improbable as a Porsche SUV. Thanks.

yep, there are a lot of Jeeps in Europe (and middle East as well). They are being build in Austria with diesel engines. Basically with 4 cyl diesel the performance is identical with 3.7L auto, but at over 30 mpg combined.
What I don't understand is that Chrysler is trying to muscle on Chinese market while every Chinese manufacturer is gunning for ours. Yes, Chinese is the fastest growing market and yes unlike Indians they did build excellent road infrastructure to accommodate demand (like Nazis in '30's). However, with $1200-$1500 GDP they will saturate their market demand at some point and until they come-up to US & West Europe standards of living this market will slow down. So why Chrysler abandons it's core?

Americans don't buy Chryslers. That ship sailed when these traitors teamed up with the Nazis.

General Motors would never commit such a crime as they sincerely value the American consumer. We as Americans should not be traitors to GM as we owe them our lives.

Money, be it euros or dollars or yen or pounds or rubles, is always helpful. But if Chrysler ignores the core market, as AgmLauncher says, it will collapse. The possibility exists that a company building cars in a very low wage region could export them to the US without caring about their sales in their home region, but that isn't Chrysler's situation. Too bad Jeep would be dragged down with them...

Chrysler CANNOT ignore its core market. Classic business mistake.

I agree that it can't ignore growth opportunities elsewhere in the world, but it can't forsake the North American market in the process.

I guess Chrysler, especially Jeep, is popular in South Europe.

On the other hand, I have friends in Poland from which I hear that Hummers and, to a lesser degree, pimped-out Caddilacs (especially Escalades) are popular there and elsewhere in Eastern Europe.

I think the Italians are buying Jeeps and Calibers, believe it or not. Grand Cherokees and Wranglers are status symbols in Italy, Greece, anywhere in the Mediterranean. And I have a colleague who took his family to Spain and Italy last summer, rented a Caliber and told me they were all over the place in both countries.

Good for Chrysler. Not surprised that Italia is their best market outside the US though, Italians buy trash like Fiats and Chinese cars. The Ferraris and Lambos that come out of Italy though, more than make up for the trash that comes out of there.

At least they are selling something somewhere. Maybe this will give the company the monetary resources to produce desirable products in the United States.

I agree with Scott Kempton. The shake up in management hopefully demonstrates that Cerberus is not accepting the "status quo" mentality that got this company into the unholy mess it is today. It will take some time to see those changes. I hope it will be worth the wait.

I also agree that it would be great to see some cool concept cars that would visually suggest the direction of an awesome future lineup.

I'm sure the Chrysler---along with anybody else who's increasing sales overseas---is glad to have the business, regardless of what the explanation is.

So the trick now is to make sure you don't rely on those "extra" foreign sales and neglect the U.S. market. Which I'm certain they're not.

I said it the other day---Cerberus certainly seems to be moving aggressively to change the management of the company. I doubt we'll see any real change in the product for at least a year, probably closer to two, or even three. But they may be throwing together some really cool-looking concept car to show at Detroit next year, just to demonstrate that they are still alive. At least I hope they are.

I dont know if this is "good news" cus it seems like every manufacturer is doing good overseas, thanks to rising demand from growing nations. Chryslers success overseas was only a matter of time. In fact, this shouldn't be news at all, this should be inferred.
