Chrysler ’s sales numbers may be in the tank, but the Michigan-based automaker has at least one thing to be proud of. A new report has found that Chrysler is tied with Toyota for production efficiency, and the Auburn Hills-based automaker even snagged the title of most productive North American plant for its Toledo, Ohio Jeep facility.
According to the Harbour Report, it takes Chrysler just 30.37 labor hours to produce a vehicle, tying Toyota’s mark. General Motors and Ford also saw improvements — now taking 32.29 and 33.88 labor hours per vehicle, respectively — but not enough to take the number one spot.
Chrysler ’s Toledo South plant — which manufactures the Jeep Wrangler — also took the honor of most productive plant, requiring just 13.57 labor hours per vehicle. Number two on the list was GM’s Oshawa, Ontario plant — which builds the Chevrolet Impala — at 15.18.
In all, Chrysler plants occupied four of the top ten spots for most productive plants. Now if they could just get those plants to produce more cars people want to buy…
