Chrysler may significantly reduce Crossfire production

02/01/2006, 11:21 AM

Chrysler may cut production of the struggling Crossfire roadster and coupe by as much as two thirds, according to a German newspaper report cited by Edmunds. Currently, the company builds about 12,000 Crossfires a year. Under the proposed reduction, that number would drop to just 4,000 units. A Chrysler spokesperson, however, has denied the report, calling it “extremely pessimistic.” The representative did, however, acknowledge that a reduction of Crossfires production was possible. The Crossfire is based on the previous-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK platform, and is arguably overpriced. In November, Leftlane reported that DaimlerChrysler had enlisted Overstock.com to help sell the vehicles at deeply discounted price points.
