Chrysler offers employee pricing to Wal-Mart employees

10/22/2008, 11:09 AM

By Andrew Ganz

On November 1, Chrysler LLC will begin offering Wal-Mart employees the same level of discount it offers to its own employees. All Wal-Mart employees will be eligible for the discounts, which range from 4 to 6 percent off of invoice pricing on a variety of Chrysler products – including most Dodge Viper models.

You probably don’t need to look for Vipers to be parked in the back lots of Wal-Marts across the country any time soon, but the discounts could somewhat bolster Chrysler’s dramatic sales slide. The automaker’s sales are down 25 percent so far this year and, with 1.4 million employees across the United States, Wal-Mart workers represent a big chunk of potential consumers.

According to the Detroit Free Press, this isn’t the first time Chrysler has extended its employee pricing to other companies; earlier this year, Tier 1 suppliers and AARP employees were granted the discount.

WTF? This is getting ridiculous, if not desperate. Is Cerberus trying to woo Wal-Mart as a potential buyer? Just think you can go to Wal-Mart (who screws cites and States out of major money and tax revenue) and buy your Chrysler instead of being greeted with a grocery cart!

To get 6% off domestic car (any car or truck) you don’t need to schlep boxes at Wal-Mart. My guess it is 4-6% off dealer’s invoice from manufacturer.

Introducing the Chrysler ‘Rollback’. I like it; has a nice ring to it. And best of all every time it depreciates or some piece falls off it’ll be just like those Wal-Mart commercials.

Not only that, but have they seen where Wal-Mart Employees park?

You know what’s really funny, Wal-Mart in my town is the dirtiest, nastiest place to shop, and I’ve found that to be true almost any other place I’ve been…

…Except in México. The Wal-Marts in México are the nicest, cleanest stores with the best customer service of nearly any department store I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing! I never thought I’d enjoy shopping at Wal-Mart, but when I go visit México, I love Wal-Mart.

Thats because the next stop for Chrysler workers is Walmart. Cerberus is in talks right now to part out Chrysler to the other car makers. We may have the Big-2 car makers very soon.

How many Wal-Mart employees can afford a Viper?

When the GM brands offered employee pricing (to everyone), sales went through the roof. Why limit it to Wal-Mart employees?

Fine, offer a discount. The smart buyer just says no and gets something … anything … else.
