According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the Chrysler Pacifica crossover is undergoing an upgraded investigation after complaints of engine fires.
Chrysler said faulty seal in the power steering system is the likely culprit. The NHTSA goes on to say as many as 51,590 2007 models with 4.0 liter engines may be affected after it received three complaints, with Chrysler reporting 25 along with 166 warranty claims.
The fires occur near the front of the crossover under the hood, as per NHTSA reports. Chrysler said the cause is power steering fluid leaking on hot engine parts because of an improperly installed seal. No injuries were reported in any of the cases.

The loss of Pacifica drivers could only improve the quality of the gene pool. Chrysler is to be commended!

400horseSS- Well, I hope it wouldn’t be on your wish list…
But what I am saying, is it’s probably Chrysler’s best car. It rides nice, it handles nice, it’s got pretty good towing, room, some nice features and in my opinion, is Chrysler’s best looking car. Just saying, maybe you should go sit in it before you judge it.

Chrysler said the leaking crankshaft seal on my Intrepid was EXTERIOR to the engine and NOT covered under warranty.
I’m sure they can use this argument again and walk away.

If would own Pacifica I would set it on fire myself! Simple economics: you bought that thing on fire (pardon the pun) sale for a fraction of the sticker. You set it on fire and get more money for it then you actually paid! Insurance company will chase Chrysler for their loss.

“Upgraded” investigation? WTF is that? After all those articles about investigations for GM engine fires and Toyota unintended acceleration, now we learn there is an upgraded investigation? Are any of the other complaints in the upgraded stage?

After it gets set on fire can I claim mental trauma for owning a Pacifica even for only a short time?
