As part of today’s earlier reports of a tentative agreement being reached between Chrysler and GM and the CAW, Buzz Hargrove, the union president, revealed more details on talks with Chrysler. The automaker promised to build the next-generation of passenger cars to a Brampton, ON plant and keep a casting plant open until at least 2011.

The tooling investment for the new full-size LH-platform cars ( Chrysler 300 , Dodge Charger and Challenger) at the Brampton plant will take effect in 2010 and is to include two shifts, as per an Automotive News report.

Hargrove also said Chrysler agreed to keep a casting plant that employs 350 workers open until the middle of 2011, at which point it would seek a buyer or joint venture partner for the money-losing operation.

Union negotiators were also told by Chrysler brass that the maker’s Windsor, Ontario, plant would be the main minivan production facility for North America, and maintain three shifts if demand for its products stays at current levels.

The CAW reached an agreement with Ford last week, resulting in a three-year contract that came an unprecedented five months before the expiration of the current contract.
