If their business fails, it's their fault. If the government pays them to fail and we let it happen, it's OUR fault. You don't like what the big cheese is doing then do your job and hold the GOV accountable. That's your job as citizens. Bitching does nothing, educate first, then ACT.

Funny how easy it is for you jokesters to rag on the D3. Dollar for dollar I would bet that even prior to all this turmoil the D3 product output quality and efficiency per worker is at least on par or better than the companies you jokesters work for. Too bad for the D3 that they are in a limelight industry and stiff competition. You smug jokesters should just concider yourselves lucky that you're not in the same competitive positions. You would probably be squirming along with the D3. America is not not noted for high efficiency workers and I am sure that includes the majority of you.

jackjimturkey, I agree with you in principal, but Toyota announced that they are replacing CEO after 3 years on the job. Give credit where credit is due: they don't have rubberstamp board standing behind totally incompetent, albeit well educated, CEO.

"Wasting" money on an ad is the least of our worries. I work for a firm with 220 people in 6 offices and you should see the waste, with just 220 people. Just imagine how much goes on with tens of thousands of employees and HUGE corporations. The billions given to the banks have yet to be audited and most banks are saying F-U to government's attemt to see where the money went. That's our biggest problem, not the $17 billion given / loaned to car companies. If ceo's of banks are still making $50-million, that's with your/our money, that's just plain wrong. And, that's $50-million that can't be given out as loans to folks trying to buy cars or homes. How is that helping the economy? I guarantee it's not "trickling down" from the ceo's bank account in Switzerland.

@IVIIVI4ck3y27, not like the current exec team at Chrysler didn't know they were joining a band of thieves called Cerberus? C'mon now. GM's turn around will literally miss a generation of buyers—that's if they can actually pull it off. Ford is the only one with any hope.

Problem with gm is they own 12 companys and everyone of them are losing money. Instead of begging for money from the government, maybe they should suck it up and sell some of there companys. Pontiac is a wrap, and so is hummer. Lets start with those and make our way down the line.

The current Chrysler executive staff shouldn't get bashed for what they're trying to do. After all, they inherited the SNAFU from Daimler and they're trying to right the ship with a leaky boat, no oars, no sail or engine, and no replacements in sight. I actually commend them for having the sincerity to thank the American people for giving them an opportunity, whether they wanted to or not. Here's to hoping Nardelli and Press can right the ship, if anyone can... I firmly believe they are the top 2 for the job. I have more faith in them than I do many of the execs. in Big 3 history, and honestly... I can't hate on Mulally (he actually seems to get it IMHO) who I think is doing a bang-up job at Ford. I keep hoping that GM will turn the tables too... and while I think Wagoner makes some missteps, I think he's better than any top executive in GM history over the last 30 or so years. It's an uphill battle to be sure... but... they deserve a chance. That is if we ever hope to have a domestic auto industry again. Granted, I prefer a prepackaged bankruptcy but it was clear that whether the Federal Reserve, Congress, or Bush pushed it through, they were going to get funding from somewhere. I'm no fan of Bush but I think it was going to happen from someone sooner or later.

At the very least... give Chrysler some legs so they can intertwine themselves with Renault/Nissan and give them a foothold to grow from. I don't think anyone wants to see another U.S. Automaker face the perils even if they probably deserve to. Right now, after the last 30 years of crap they've pedaled... they probably all deserve to go the way of the Do-Do. Yet, there is progress being made at GM and Ford on the product level (Saturn, Cadillac, Chevrolet, some of the forthcoming Fords that are in the pipeline, Lincoln looks to be revitalizing into something of a contender). Chrysler had the toughest position to be in and I think they could come out of it with the right alliances and leadership. If Press and Nardelli had been there throughout the Daimler years, I'm pretty confident Chrysler would've never ended up in the shape they're in now. If we want to blame anyone... blame Dr. Z.

I feel a certain confidence that if they can weather the storm the next few years... all 3 could be ready for a major resurgence assuming they don't fall back to their mediocre ways. The only thing I fear is GM pulling the plug on Saturn vs. Pontiac. Pontiac needs to goooooooooo... as bad or worse than people think Buick or Mercury need to go. Buick has China to spur it's future. Saturn has ties to Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden worldwide which holds benefit for it. Pontiac has nothing outside of the Vibe and G8 of any unique value, and most everything else is the most absolute blatant attempts at badge engineering GM has had since the 1980's. Moral of the story, with all of that and the stigma of Pontiac being the redneck brand of "ribbed for your pleasure" cars from the 80's... Pontiac isn't the hallmark of 60's performance/sophistication it once was and the gap between it and Chevrolet has turned in Chevy's favor.

With more modern kit on lots at most every other marque in GM's lineup... killing off Pontiac, replacing it with Saturn (consolidating the Saturn brand into existing Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealers where no Saturn dealer exists for miles... and maybe even shutting down a few Saturn dealers or converting them to Saturn/Buick/GMC dealers longterm), and opening Saturn up from no-dicker to open pricing would be the biggest and best thing GM could do. It'd cost way too much to do anything else, GM would have to retool everything Saturn has to slot into Pontiac dealers at considerable cost to them, and for what? To have people reluctant to walk into the dealer knowing full-well what Pontiac stands for to them?

Move the G8 and Vibe to Chevrolet... the Torrent is already becoming a GMC next go-round and the Vue = better than it anyhow, Pontiac has no Lambda to concern themselves with, the Sky is as good or better than the Solstice as-is and we don't need both anyhow, the G5 is a tweaked Cobalt (and a poor attempt at that), and the Aura is miles better than the G6. Give Saturn an Insignia coupe/sedan to replace the Aura/G6 coupe, maybe even a convertible next go round, and Pontiac's relevancy would be parked for good.

Face it people... the GTO didn't work for Pontiac, it didn't sell... the Firebird isn't coming back with the Camaro. What more does Pontiac offer other than a bunch of crappy product with stigmas dating back to 80's garbage cars? The Grand Prix hasn't been updated in yeeeeeears and is the odd product out of the "G-series" mix Pontiac has moved to anyhow (what do you call it... G7? It's bigger than the G6 but smaller than the G8). The Grand Am was such a rolling piece of trash that only the devoted rednecks that owned them would be apt to look for them again. To say that the lack of "horrid models" like the Grand Am is hurting Pontiac is moronic at best... those models, while being classic names, had long-since been trashed and disgraced to the point there's not much of merit left.. Life will go on once they have an actual Saturn dealer in their backyard that's priced competitively and be stocked with superior product. Any other decision... is absolutely moronic.

I keep hoping that GM will turn the tables too… and while I think Wagoner makes some missteps, I think he’s better than any top executive in GM history over the last 30 or so years. It’s an uphill battle to be sure… but… they deserve a chance. That is if we ever hope to have a domestic auto industry again. Granted, I prefer a prepackaged bankruptcy but it was clear that whether the Federal Reserve, Congress, or Bush pushed it through, they were going to get funding from somewhere. I’m no fan of Bush but I think it was going to happen from someone sooner or later.

At the very least… give Chrysler some legs so they can intertwine themselves with Renault/Nissan and give them a foothold to grow from. I don’t think anyone wants to see another U.S. Automaker face the perils even if they probably deserve to. Right now, after the last 30 years of crap they’ve pedaled… they probably all deserve to go the way of the Do-Do. If Press and Nardelli had been there throughout the Daimler years, I’m pretty confident Chrysler would’ve never ended up in the shape they’re in now. If we want to blame anyone… blame Dr. Z.

I feel a certain confidence that if they can weather the storm the next few years… all 3 could be ready for a major resurgence assuming they don’t fall back to their mediocre ways. The only thing I fear is GM pulling the plug on Saturn vs. Pontiac. Pontiac needs to goooooooooo… as bad or worse than people think Buick or Mercury need to go. Buick has China to spur it’s future. Saturn has ties to Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden worldwide which holds benefit for it. Pontiac has nothing outside of the Vibe and G8 of any unique value, and most everything else is the most absolute blatant attempts at badge engineering GM has had since the 1980′s. Moral of the story, with all of that and the stigma of Pontiac being the redneck brand of “ribbed for your pleasure” cars from the 80′s… Pontiac isn’t the hallmark of 60′s performance/sophistication it once was and the gap between it and Chevrolet has turned in Chevy’s favor.

With more modern kit on lots at most every other marque in GM’s lineup… killing off Pontiac, replacing it with Saturn (consolidating the Saturn brand into existing Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealers where no Saturn dealer exists for miles… and maybe even shutting down a few Saturn dealers or converting them to Saturn/Buick/GMC dealers longterm), and opening Saturn up from no-dicker to open pricing would be the biggest and best thing GM could do. It’d cost way too much to do anything else, GM would have to retool everything Saturn has to slot into Pontiac dealers at considerable cost to them, and for what? To have people reluctant to walk into the dealer knowing full-well what Pontiac stands for to them?

Move the G8 and Vibe to Chevrolet… the Torrent is already becoming a GMC next go-round and the Vue = better than it anyhow, Pontiac has no Lambda to concern themselves with, the Sky is as good or better than the Solstice as-is and we don’t need both anyhow, the G5 is a tweaked Cobalt (and a poor attempt at that), and the Aura is miles better than the G6. Give Saturn an Insignia coupe/sedan to replace the Aura/G6 coupe, maybe even a convertible next go round, and Pontiac’s relevancy would be parked for good.

Face it people… the GTO didn’t work for Pontiac, it didn’t sell… the Firebird isn’t coming back with the Camaro. What more does Pontiac offer other than a bunch of crappy product with stigmas dating back to 80′s garbage cars? The Grand Prix hasn’t been updated in yeeeeeears and is the odd product out of the “G-series” mix Pontiac has moved to anyhow (what do you call it… G7? It’s bigger than the G6 but smaller than the G8). The Grand Am was such a rolling piece of trash that only the devoted rednecks that owned them would be apt to look for them again. To say that the lack of “horrid models” like the Grand Am is hurting Pontiac is moronic at best… those models, while being classic names, had long-since been trashed and disgraced to the point there’s not much of merit left.. Life will go on once they have an actual Saturn dealer in their backyard that’s priced competitively and be stocked with superior product. Any other decision… is absolutely moronic.

Chrysler is a product of there own actions.*Prediction* Chrysler is going to burn through the money. For a company that hasnt had this kind of capital since 2004, and hanging on by a thread. Any money they recieve will go into marketing there product. Problem is there product is ugly, overpriced. Maybe they should get rid of there "Hemi" engines and built a vehicle that can get over 24mpg. There trucks are still wack!

"Delivering products with the best quality and value in our companies history"

...When will this happen?

But through all arrogance and impatience, I almost appreciate Chrysler for taking out a few ads to show they appreciate it. More than for the hundreds of billions of dollars blown in foolish and stupid wall-street investors and lending companies.

You don't remember voting? I voted by never buying a Chrysler product.

Well, I for one can't wait for the ad thanking Americans for paying for an expensive national ad.
