Chrysler puts Dr. Z on hold, for now

09/01/2006, 9:21 AM

By admin

Chrysler on Thursday suspended its Dr. Z television campaign as its employee discount program came to an end. Rather than updating the ads to promote the automaker’s new zero-percent financing deal, Chrysler instead decided to create new ads specifically for the offer. Chrysler said reworked Dr. Z ads could appear at a later date, but the focus for now is on promoting the company’s ten new models. With all the products we’re launching in the third and fourth quarter, that shift might change for a little bit on the campaign but longer term we’re reviewing what will be the next phase of the broadcast component,” a Chrysler spokeswoman said.

thank god! This makes me consider a DCX product now simply because it proves they are listening to the public.

this campaign really was misconceived from the onset. filled with ridiculous euphemisms and stereotypes – including the unfunny german, the lecturing german, the “engineer” german, and let’s not forget the make-fun-of-the-german angle, too – it just didn’t work.

DCX wants to stress its german ownership at a time when domestic automakers are suffering – not well timed at all.

my take would be to focus on product and styling. they have some great designs that are selling fairly well – it’s easy enough to focus on this angle rather than trying to cartoonize their CEO in order to move inventory.

In 6 months, they will bring them back out as retro commercials and have Dieter star with Jason Alexander and Snoop Dog…

Ya think Lido couldn’t understand Snoop…try Doggie Style understanding Dr. Z!!

Renton,
They should moderate this site now because there has recently been an increase of posts like this by people like you. You should try and be alittle more mature, then you can come and post with the adults.

Dr. Z was weird.Plus the commercial about the red neck asking him to quote “Hemi” was retarded. His name reminds me of Datsun 240Z for some reason lol. Anyway, I didn’t like the commercial it was immature imo.

Andre Neves… I couldn’t agree more.
I haven’t seen the commercial, so I’m just going to keep my mouth shut. I do not sit in front of the TV for hours, I am not a couch potatoe, I’m out working hard for hard deserved money.

He was alright but they kept showing the damn commercials so much, I got sick of him, it was also steriotyping germans and I never like the concept of Mercedes taking over Chrysler.
