I almost bought a Magnum on Saturday. R/T, black with white interior... very nice. Then as the test-drive ended, I hit the eject buttong on the CD player and it wouldn't give me my CD back. That's it, will stick to driving the same German cars I always drive.

But go talk to some cops...they still like the Crown Vic for its room and that its great for pushing cars off the highway. Cities/ counties like them because they get better mileage. The Dodge is simply more cool than the Ford. Also I heard the perps don't like the rear door approach because the cops tend to rap their heads against the rear pillar when their being sardined into the cruzer after a big chase.

That's not a recall! That should just be a service bulletin. A recall on a police cruiser is when we find out that when rear ended the car blows up like the Crown Vics w/cng tanks in the trucks like in the early 90's. Just ask Phx police officer Jason Schecterle which one he'd rather be driving right now. One that blows up or one that he can't tell which gear he's in?

Ahh, blown out shocks and structs? I knew cops were too fat for their own good. Sure, they have to pass a physical performance test before they can join, but I suggest they retest every year, so that cops don't get too fat like the ones I see all the time.

I have been in a couple of drive along and they do hit the shifter hard, we service the old Vic's at our dealer, and they mostly come in for blown out shocks and struts, but no tranny's....
But again how old is the Crown Vic. ?........

I'm waiting to see if my city starts buying Carbon Motors E7s in the next few years.

Aside from looking like something that fell out of a 1990s sci-fi movie, A purpose made cop car is a brilliant concept.

I just realized I didn't finish my sentence. It should have read: "But since these guys have to chase the other cars, work the radio, and possibly enter information on their computers while they drive, shifting would be an extra, unnecessary thing to do."

And F3 is right. You can outrun the cops, but you can't outrun Motorola.

Sorry but a good friend of mine is captain of SWAT down here by me and I am positive that he would tell you this: Cops use automatics because they have to do multiple things at once at pretty much all times and not only that but they have to keep their mind on watching for crime. They chase down criminals that have knives and guns which most of us are probably too pussy to do in the first place so I think driving a manual is not only irrelevant for them but also probably does not provide enough entertainment value since they have much more manly sh1t to take care of than simply driving a manual tranny ( no big deal). Also just a side note if anyone feels that they should drive using a manual for performance reasons forget it, they have already beat every car on the road because nobody is faster than a radio my friends.

I'm not surprised they have issues, it's dodge/chrysler. The less intimidating chargers on the road the better for us speeders.

On the flip side fast cop cars look pretty cool and if i were to choose to have one back i would go with the vettes. In the 80's mass state police used to have manual vettes. That would be pretty cool to see a ZR1 state trooper.

I made a show where the hostess went through partial Police Chase Training, and while I was shooting, I asked the trainer why they use automatics. He said, "If we were racing, we'd want manuals. But since these guys have to chase the other cars, work the radio, and possibly enter information on their computers while they drive." That's why they use automatics.
