Chrysler has announced the recall of 296,500 2006 and 2007 model year Jeep Grand Cherokees, Commanders, Wranglers and Dodge Nitros. The recall is due to a an electronic unit that could delay braking while coasting uphill, possibility resulting in a crash. The recall was initiated after the company received a report of one accident.
According to The Detroit News, Chrysler is also recalling 72,333 Dodge Avenger sedans and Chrysler Sebring convertibles from the 2008 model year to fix front door latches and locks.
The news of the recall comes on the heels of Honda recalling nearly 200,000 Civics. Chrysler had the most recalls of any domestic automaker, by a wide margin, in 2007.

Why don’t they figure out what could go wrong with these things before putting them on the market? Probably costs too much, but i’d rather spend a few dollars on making sure my product is OK than allow a PR disaster like this

News like this can’t really hurt Chrysler right now. Cerebus can spin it, so they look like they’re making sure quality is job #1, and cleaning up after previous mistakes. Better to take all their lumps now.
Pretty impressive that it only took one accident. Normally they wait until numerous people have died or been injured.

You know why they recall so little? That’s because not many people bought Chrysler cars. Why the HELL do you think Benz is selling Chrysler ? HELLO? Honda have to recall in the 100,000s because guess what? Are you sitting down? It’ll be Earth shattering news (like Earth revolve around the sun). There are more people that bought Honda stuff then Chrysler. That’s why Honda isn’t being sold off.
There’s so much import haters here it’s not funny. Blah blah wa… Toyota surpass Ford. Waaa ford is down the toilet. Waa chrysler being sold. Waa-shut the hell up. Overall pictures Domestic needs to pick up the ball. No petty little incidents is going to put a blanket over people eyes that Japanese is growing and Domestic is shrinking. Either sell stuff people wants or face the consequences. It’s free market it ain’t communism. I say the same crap to the Japanese cars too if there were in GM or Ford position.

Mythical,
Don’t bother with Commodore hes a Patriot so he thinks that Americans should buy American first no matter what the quality. I believe he drives hmm…a German vehicle. SO he doesn’t even believe the **** he says.
When the patriotic import haters saw the civic post they almost pissed their pants bc finally finally they can say something negative about the Japanese. The people are trying to act as if GM is still not having SERIOUS quality problems with their cars.
It rarely happens to the Japanese and no matter what the Japanese are still better in quality. It would take 20 years of recalls by the Japanese to catch up with the domestics.
I love it

Import haters are ****ing queer communists.
We’ve shown time and time again the relationship between buying domestic and potentiating communization of North America. Only a ****ing deadbeat, welfare-loving, parasitic drone in society with no ambition would support a movement that insists upon high pay for no work with outrageous compensation and safety nets below in case they decide to feel sick or can’t be bothered to show up to work.
When you buy American, you support the UAW and CAW, whose aim is to collect an outrageous pay for 30 hours a week on the job, followed by eating doritos, watching TV, and ****ing their sisters.

Alright, I just love it when somebody brings up a good point someone else has to call them a “hater”, “racist” or “bigot”, because I don’t believe I’m any of those things. I liked my Subaru a few years ago, but it was too small and I now enjoy my Taurus station wagon even more! Great, economical car with wonderful utility and a decent amount of power, without any major faults so far (150,000 miles, maybe not that much, but for not having any problems it’s going fairly good).
I wouldn’t even begin to call this a major recalls. For once, look away from the numbers and pictures and read the fine print.
After only ONE incident, they begin the recalls of almost 300,000 vehicles. Now that to me is caring about the person buying your vehicle, that shows responsibility! That also includes the Avengers problems, it’s a very recent model, so I acknowledge that they took care of the problem quickly.
The Honda problem on the other hand is something that most likely has been reoccuring since 2006, and is a pretty major problem that testing mules should have found. So, explain to me why didn’t Honda find it? I understand small malfunctions and computer systems, but wheel bearings?
Mythical programmer, I’m guessing your a child who looks out his window all day, watching the cars go by. But welcome to the real world! Chrysler may have a huge amount of recalls, but Honda sells fewer vehicles, meaning for every vehicle Honda recalls, it affects their overall consensus more and more. But unfortunately, *most* of Chryslers products are of low quality in the first place.
Chrysler needs to get on the ball. This shows that Cerberus has responsibility, which breeds respect, but I believe they need to work on their vehicles more. Aside from Jeep which fills a niche, and Dodges trucks (mostly it’s the styling that entices me to include Dodge trucks) Chrysler doesn’t seem to have much going for them right now.

EXACTLY! I do think Chrysler has bad quality, but at least they take care of the problems quickly. Like I just said in the Honda recall thread, Toyonda usually wait until multiple accidents and/or deaths happen before they issue their recall..that to me is not very resposible. And you are so right about people here calling us racist, idiots, and whatever else they can think of when they can’t win their arguments. People, especially Deanster, stoop down to such a low level just because we don’t agree with their anti-american trash. THEY are the haters and THEY call American’s rednecks and hicks while accusing me of being racist??

Elvio – we have not even mentioned Muslims/Arabs until now so I don’t know how you are making the connection to 9/11
America is not racist. It’s ignorant – people don’t understand that Islamist extremists are a very small part of the Muslim community and that most Muslims are NOT like that. Also, America is just racially sensitive because of our history – racism is taken very seriously which is why people use the race card when they can’t win a debate fairly.
Back on topic, I don’t understand why deanster was calling me stupid and whatever for supporting american car companies that are actually making good cars (that excludes chrysler and most ford cars). I think his logic of “buy american if you want to support the UAW” is COMPLETELY wrong. Most people, like me, who support GM HATE the unions because we are smart enough to know that the UAW is just dragging GM down

Commodore, communism still exists in china and korea the only reason why there is no communism in the Slavic countries was because the beating the soviet union took in the cold war in 1979-1988. But don’t take me wrong i hated communism i was only aloud to own one car (trabant look it up) and all jobs payed the same.
Deanster, There you are i have been looking for you, and still you leave the best comments around, fun and games. it has been a long time i am helping my soon to be son in-law imagrate to canada.
What i have to say about imports is when i first came to canada i bought a new toyota 4runner in 1988 and a 81 camaro in 1990. they both ran well i never had problem and i beat the **** out of 4runner on mudflats. I sold the camaro just before summer and i just gave my youngest son the 4runner and it still is in good shape, like brand new. so i like imports and american cars it just depends on what kind. You would never see me with a ford, and you would never see me with a mazda.

Commodore…I think the connection is on the right wing conservatives’ thinking after 911. And most American fell for that. The way they think how the America should be is really scary. I always pray America not going back to it’s 60s. But, we are about half way to the old age. Hopefully, “tomorrow” would be a better day.

Never say never. Whatever reason you have about Mazda, I beg to differ. I have had 3 Mazdas for the past 10 years, and they are good to me. With the 90s Mazda, you do have to watch out for particular models. For 2000+, they have been great, and it shows in sales.
By the way, calling American “racist” here as a Canadian yourself won’t win you very many friends here. You are generalizing at best.
So Chrysler felt the urge to outdo Honda. I guess they really believe in “there is not such thing as bad publicity.”
