Chrysler recalls 46,805 Jeep models

04/14/2009, 12:54 PM

By Drew Johnson

Chrysler has announced the recall of nearly 47,000 Jeep models for two separate recalls. The first recall involves 4,336 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Commander vehicles made for the 2009 model year while the second covers 42,469 2002-03 model year Jeep Liberty SUVs.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Chrysler is recalling 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokees, Wranglers and Commanders due to faulty wiring. The vehicles’ driver’s airbags could be incorrectly wired, resulting in airbag failure. Although the defect could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash, no injuries have been linked to the recall.

Additionally, Chrysler and the NHTSA are recalling more than 42,000 Jeep Liberty SUVs from the 2002 and 2003 model years. The recall only includes vehicles sold in or currently registered in states that get significant snowfall. Salt used to de-ice roads in the Snow Belt states could possibly corrodes the vehicles’ front suspension, which could lead to separation while driving.

Chrysler dealers will correct both defects free of charge.

Shouldn’t this “Chrysler dealers will correct both defects free of charge. ” read “Chrysler dealers will correct both defects at tax payer expense.”

No big deal. Half of those Libertys are probably already off the road because of engine sludge.

Not that it is a valid excuse for Chrysler to build sh*tty products…but where I live (Pennsylvania) the local municipalities salt the roads way too much in winter. Plowing is necessary, but dumping so much salt on the roads so that every last snow flake is melted is ridiculous. If motorists can’t drive on snowy roads, they don’t deserve to be driving at all…

Sorry about the rant…just annoys the heck outta me…

Too much bitching. We are not talking burning Pintos here. That was a recall: there was nothing to recall.
