Chrysler is arguably in the worst shape of the three domestic automakers – with 70 percent of its lineup consisting of now out of favor trucks and SUVs – and it looks like the company’s shift to crossovers won’t exactly be a smooth one. Chrysler announced on Monday the recall of 6,692 Dodge Journey crossover vehicles.
The recall affects Journeys equipped with Chrysler’s 3.5L V6 and is due to a faulty wiring harness that could come in contact with the left transaxle mount, possibly sparking an engine fire.

While the recall only impacts a relatively small amount of vehicles, it’s definitely not the kind of publicity Dodge wanted to surround its new crossover with at launch. The automaker has suffered in recent quality reports – including the 2008 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study – so a recall of the first batch of Journeys won’t bolster consumer confidence.

Dodge launched the Journey in February and has sold 17,569 Journeys as of May 31.
