Chrysler has announced the recall of its Dodge Journey and Fiat 500 models for a brake system issue. Both vehicles are made at Chrysler’s Toluca, Mexico production facility.

The recall covers 2012 Journey and 500 models produced between October 24, 2011 and October 26, 2011. As you might guess from that narrow timeframe, the recall is fairly limited, including just 340 vehicles.

But those 340 owners will want to take note of the recall as it covers the vehicles’ braking system. Chrysler says those vehicles included in the recall may have been assembled with contaminated brake fluid, which could lead to the degradation of the sealing components within the braking system. If that occurs, it could lead to brake failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will remedy the problem by replacing all brake components that come in contact with the fluid. The recall is scheduled to officially begin next month.
