Auto plants in Delaware seem to be the hot ticket these days. Just one day after Fisker announced the purchase of a former General Motors auto plant in Wilmington, Delaware, Chrysler has asked a bankruptcy court to approve the sale of its shuttered Newark, Delaware plant.
According to the latest court filings, old Chrysler – officially known as Old Carco LLC in bankruptcy court — has inked a tentative deal with the University of Maryland to sell its former Newark plant for $24.25 million, including a $2 million deposit. The shuttered plant once produced the Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen.

“While other parties have continued to express interest in the property, no party has actually come forward with a higher and better offer,†Chrysler ’s lawyers said in a statement. Judge Arthur Gonzalez will make a ruling on the request on November 12.

The University of Maryland plans to transform the 270 acre plot into part of its expanding campus, according to Reuters. The University has already setup a Web site accepting bidding offers to recondition the site.
