U.S. sales of the Chrysler 300 surpassed the 300,000 mark in April 2006, making it the quickest Chrysler brand vehicle to reach the milestone in two years, the company said today. With the introduction of the Chrysler 300, the Chrysler Group revived the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) sedan after a 15-year hiatus. The Leftlane Perspective: The 300C is a great example of where American cars should be headed. The question is, can Chrysler pull off another 300? My brother has one-SWEET! I always found it “funny” that Chryco had to look to Mercedes to relearn how to build RWD vehicles; it didn’t make a lot of sense. Apart from the Domestics chasing the imports, I have always wondered who it was that was demanding FWD cars in the first place. Ford was the only one who figured muscle cars were worth building, until now. Maybe they’ll all get their heads out of their butts and build what we want with the quality we deserve. The consumers WILL return, eventually.
PS That 4-door Wrangler will eventually make it into my driveway!

The 300 is a big, massive chuck of half-assed engineering. Sure, it looks commanding, and what car that copies Bentley’s design, doesn’t? Yes, it can go in a straight line, but that’s the problem: it’s a typical American car only designed to go in a straight line. Try turning the car quickly and see what happens.
You if you try the same maneuver in a Passat, you’ll be able to control the car perfectly, whereas the Chrysler is going to give you a massive amount of understeer at the top of the turn, and a lot of oversteer at the bottom of it. Plus, have you seen the interior of the 300? It’s a joke (the interior of the recent MB’s are horrible as well)…seriously people are willing to purchase anything the auto companies throw at them.

That sales of 150K/year is considered a rousing success is only measure of how sad the state of Chrysler was previously. There are only so many pimps and major league sports stars to sell to, and Cadillac is going after the same buyers from different angle. I hope there’s a still a market for American cars for people who don’t equate luxury with bad taste.

Congrats to Chrysler for selling so many 300’s. I see a lot of them every day, and they still look terrific. Let’s hope there won’t be any devastating recalls in a few months (insert domestic bashing here): long live the 300!

Jon, in response to the market willing to purchase anything that manufacturers throw at them… I think that explains the current BMW thing (exclude the M series). Their designs have been so awful for years. Especially the 7-series, Z3 and Z4, SUV…actually the whole line. Can’t believe they had to drag Rolls Royce designs down the toilet too. It seems only the VW group has been making anything semi-worth buying. Bentley designs have suffered too. No longer good-looking exteriors, kind of cheap looking… been looking a lot like Chryslers.

Probably doesn’t even know how to drive a car. Whatever the car is like engineering wise, its makes as much money as any suv can and is still selling in high numbers. Explaiins why chrysler is making a profit unlike GM or Ford. Best current american car by far infact ever.
