Boneheads at Chrysler.

They're good at cool designs. Why implement a skunkworks design team?

If they stuck to Iacocca's model, they'd be able to build the most cost effecient vehicles on the planet.

They're just blind - Chryslers problem has always been quality - transmissions that crap out at 60k, engines that burn oil and don't last past 100k, 30 year old drive train designs, etc. Why don't they get it? It's why I'll never buy one.

Brendino, Skunkworks = team that is given total freedom to design and build whatever they want. Usually liberal budgets, no interference by the accountants and administrators. They're usually formed as a last-ditch effort, when a company knows they're beat and it's time to think outside of the box. This is a good move!

The name has some convoluted origin. I read about it once, it came from a cartoon where someone made Skunk juice and it was a secret factory, aka "Skunk Works" and some high-tech military team adopted it 50 years ago...Google it, I'm not sure...

This is good news. I want them to bring back the beloved I-6. Nothing runs smoother than a strong I-6, and if they put a turbo on it, even better.

J-Chronic
I worked for Ford for 3 years, so I smelled the rot from the inside
Toyota had a recall? Wow.
Only 80000 more and they can catch up to Ford
The sales title isn't Toyota's goal. GM was the only one who said they want to win it.
Now watching Silverado sales fall, while Tundra eats market share like Skittles....
That's priceless.

DrFill: couldn't help but notice you were conspicuous by your absence on the 600,000 Toyota Sienna faux-pas on an earlier thread. Why is that? We all so much look forward to your unbiased meditations on all things Toyota. Oh wait... wasn't there also the piece on GM still being number one in global sales for the 77th year? My what a disappointing day you've had! Well feel free to suckle on the tit of those who strive to provide moral support for your tortured soul.

We are here for you, DrFill. By the way, what is it your full of?

Chrysler has to do something, the current entry is the pitiful Sebring. A new midrange sedan a bit more powerful and luxurious than the current Sebring sedan would be great for Chrysler. They could also keep the Sebring name around for just a couple/convertible version, since the droptop Sebring has been America's best selling convertable for some time.

Wait a minute, this is Chrysler we're talking about, I'm sure nothing of what I just said will ever happen...

Sounds like a start. I wonder if the replacement for the Sebring/Avenger is first on their list? I also wonder if the guys/gals who designed, and/or the guys/gals who approved, those two cars still work for Chrysler? I cringe every time I see one of those cars; they look to me as though they were designed to be rental cars.

I miss the days when you could count on Chrysler to have exciting cars; maybe the "new guys" will bring back those days.

^ I agree. It sort of sounds good. It would be easier to get excited about it if it was clarified a bit more. It does sound like it is not "business as usual" anymore at Chrysler LLC, but that's about all that is clear about the info.
