Chrysler to bring back summer employee discount

06/22/2006, 8:17 AM

By admin

The Chrysler group will bring back its employee-discount program for consumers beginning July 1, Automotive News reports. Dealer sources said the program is essentially the same as last year’s. “Such a move suggests other OEMs continue to view GM’s new-found price discipline as a chance to grab market share rather than lift prices,” said Jonathan Steinmetz, an analyst for Morgan Stanley. He predicted last week that Chrysler would be the first automaker to announce a discount program is summer. GM and Ford could be forced to match Chrysler’s initiatives.

they should lower the discount that employee get. IE: instead of given the employees a 20,000 car for 16,000 give it to them for 17,500. i think these employee pricing sales are largly pyschological. they amy be able to actaully make a few bucks!

Hey #1, I wish BMW and Audi would do it too!! LOL!! But that will never happen. I like the Chrysler 300 but wonder if it will be excluded… Probably so. I am sure they are doing this to move out those Sebrings and those Vans to make way for the new ones coming out…

Yeah, it would be great if Audi and BMW did something even remotely close to this. But of course, they don’t have to. Those cars move themselves.

They’ll need the incentives to get people into the new Chrysler ION.

My guess is that Chrysler sales between now and July 1st will be low rofl

I am a bit surprised that Chrysler is doing this, but this year is just the beggining of a rebound and if they want to climb to the top they need to keep fighting to get their cars out the door.

#1: no, you got it wrong, you’re getting ripped off by buying high-priced cars whose value will drop like a brick anyway…the discounts simply bring great deals to people. :-)

Value drops like a brick? Have you priced out a used BMW lately? They cost nearly as much as a new one.

There are two BMW’s on Edmunds list of “Cars with Best Resale Value.” Have a look for youself.

To clarify, “used” within the last 2-3 years of course. A 2003 3-series with normal mileage can still go for at least 27k.

I know what your thinking Chrysler, and I’m pretty sure it will still take a lot more than this to sell the new Sebring. I suggest a very large brown paper bag with holes cut in it.

HAHAHA Chrysler has to give their cars away while every smart individual will pay full sticker for a GM car because guess what?

People actually want them :)

HAHAHA #7…if a great deal is a crappy van or 4 cylinder econobox (which is mainly what the deal applies for) then youve got something great coming your way

oh and 11…GM will follow suit…american companies love doing these things once one of them does…like lemmings following each other into the ocean

Why don’t they just learn from past mistakes. Employee discounts are great for the consumer but is damaging to the carmaker’s bottom line and it puts into question the value of the car. Detroit automakers should make cars that sell themselves.

Um, they DO make cars that sll themselves. It’s the idiots who don’t buy them who are missing out on our wonderful vehicles

God damn it!!! Chrysler needs to stop doing this crap discount and incentives!! When one Big Three starts something, other Two will follow. Then the Big three will lose money!! They need to learn from Japanese & european companies!! $500 rebate is fine. Lazy morons will only get new cars if there are rebates. Just make the rebates low enough for the companies not to go broke. Sooo easy!!! I should run for Big Three

If GM DID make cars that sell themselves, why are they struggling now? All those negative news of sagging sales and market share? It is only after they hired Lutz that GM somehow realize their mistake by making reasonable future cars like the Camaro and the next-gen CTS.
Be realistic…
