Wonder if Alfa will lend platforms to Chrysler in return. Chrysler is cutting back on production and wants more alliances, so this makes a lot of sense for them.

Couple good points for Chrysler: offloading production capacity and getting Alfa/FIAT diesel technology. FIAT actually surpassed M-B & BMW in small diesel engineering. If Chrysler can get some of that they'll be able to compete not only with Detroit rivals but with Asians as well.

Yeah I don't see the Alfa 8c being produced stateside at a plant. You think a car costing that much would be hand assembled or at least partly hand assembled. But I can't remember what did Alfa Romeo say which cars were being brought to the U.S? Punto, Brera Coupe and Spyder? I can see those being manufactured at one of Chrysler's plants.

@jayj08 - Chrysler has factories. The startup costs to get the land, develop it, build a factory, and hire workers are just enormous. If they can piggyback off of a Chrysler factory that isn't running to capacity (and I'm sure there's at LEAST one of those), then they get to go straight to production. Chrysler wins cause they don't have to fire workers and maybe they get some parts sharing, and Fiat saves a ton while getting back in the US.

It is nice to see some creative mental activity on a board level. Can anybody detect brain function at GM or Ford? Not really. GM is clearly geriatric case and since Henry passed away his sperm did not produce good scion (perhaps low count).

Who knows what fucking craziness will ensue from this. Maybe they'll bring over the Punto GT and slap the Caliber SRT's engine in it. Maybe we'll get the Dodge Demon with the 8C's 420 hp V8 in it. Probably though, nothing will happen.

So, I'm guessing the small car with that Chinese company is off?

I really can't see Nissan building a full size pick-up. I understand it's a huge market, but only a few can really harness those sales- Tundras selling alright for a vehicle, but is in the dumps, and Nissan pick up sales have stayed pretty flat.

I'm curious what Fiat thinks of this. Personally, I could imagine a few Fiat models come over here, but I don't know that Chrysler has much to offer that Fiat would want.

Chrysler is doing all it can to stay afloat, can't fault them for that. I understand the cooperation with Nissan, as it will benefit both companies, but this one I find a bit harder to comprehend as a successful move for either party. Sure it'll be cheaper for Alfa to have Chrysler produce a car here, but sports cars? I doubt the Alfa 8C halo car will be produced by Chrysler, but we'll see. With Nissan making a small car for Mopar, I doubt we'll see them making a FIAT 500 anytime soon either. At least they are making attempts though.

Good stuff Chrysler. This use of your resources keeps the company moving forward while you get your own house in order. Obviously other manufacturers feel Chrysler is quite capable of producing a quality product despite the issues they've had with some of their own models. Let's be honest though, while many current mopars may be underwhelming to look at and have less than inspiring interiors, but they're still pretty well screwed together with decent fit and finish.
