Chrysler to halt Crossfire production?

Production of the Chrysler Crossfire roadster and coupe could be on the verge of being halted, according to a report by AutoExpress. However, a Chrysler spokesperson wasn’t so pessimistic. The representitive said Chrysler will certainly reduce output, but “this doesn’t mean we are looking to end production outright.” Recently, Reuters reported that Chrysler would pay the company that makes the Crossfire to reduce the contracted output volume. The Crossfire sits on the lot for an average of 302 days. Poor sales have been blamed largely on the price of the Crossfire, which many feel is far to high.

They cost way too much and they’re ugly as hell. A fully loaded SRT-6 version costs more than a 300C SRT-8. How does that make any sense?

So let me get this straight – it’s too expensive, doesn’t sell, they’re running a 300-plus-day supply, and paying Karmann to cut back production. But they don’t think they should cancel it. WTF? Chrysler’s headed for another bust cycle if it keeps going like this.

I have an SLK32 on this platform, and it’s a “good” car for what it is. It’s a third-car Sunday driver. It is not as good as a lot of cars in it’s class, but I just liked it as a matter of personal taste, especially the top and conservative styling.

That being said, the Crossfire is A) Very stylized, and said styling is polarizing (I personally like the base coupe OK, but the SRT and the Conv. are really nasty). Most people I know don’t like it at all. (subtract $3k) B) The interior did not make the translation very well at all- it looks really cheap and cheezy. (subtract $5k) C) No nifty folding hardtop (subtract 7k)

So, looks like the base model should be around 22k and the SRT around 32-35k when compared to the MB, and that does not even include blue-sky for the “name”. !

Put it out of it’s agony DCX…make an new, better one on the new, better SLK chassis.

The only thing I disliked about it was the rear-end. It was like a girl with nice breasts and a flat behind. I don’t have anything against hardtops, I think they are cool and all but there is something about the classic “ragtop” that appeals to me. Yes the car is too expensive for a Chrysler but I don’ t think that’s what killed sales.

it does have “unique” looks but thats not what killed it, the ridiculous price is…why would anyone spend that much for a chrysler when they could get something european.

People weren’t ready to accept Chrysler as a true luxury brand. I don’t think poor sales of the Crossfire ought to discourage Chrysler from moving in that direction, though. They just have to take it slowly.

FUGLY. The only mistep of Chrysler in recent years. Shame on them for putting out a bastardize SL/SLK type car. Sure you can share the genes but no product should be released looking like the Crossfire.

Plus, they can’t even use the proper version of the word “to” (”…which many feel is far to high”.).
The Crossfire is/was the strip mall of cars; too many crazy-fake-do-nothing trim pieces. God is in the details; just not the chromed plastic, rattling, overly-done trim-piece details.

A good show car that was aimed at a nonexistant need. Apparently, Chrysler thought it SHOULD HAVE a two seater in their lineup, so it built one on the MB platform. OK, now the public is telling Chrysler that this one isn’t the one they should have: poor styling and high price. Kill it, Chrysler. You can’t afford to go off into a low volume specialty market without getting a return on your investment! Let MB take the hits with poor build quality, pedestrian cars and high prices.

MAN I’M GLAD THEY GIVE THE CHRYSLER HATERS SOME MORE AMMO, I THINK THE CHEVY MALIBU MAXX WAS ANE AWESOME ADDITION THE THE LINE UP….AND THE IMPALA IS A REAL LOOKER………OHH AND THE G6….OHHHHHHH REAL NICE DESIGN……ANYONE GOT AN OPENING FOR MY NIEGBOR WHO JUST GOT LAID OFF FROM GM…..HE NEEDS A JOB REAL BAD, HE WAS ONLY A 17 YEAR EMPLOYEE, WITH 3 KIDS IN COLLEGE AND, HE CAN GET IN LINE WITH THE DELPHI GUYS AND STRIKE UP A CONVERSATION…..

OK, there’s lots of Crossfire bashing going on here. But the fact is… you don’t own one for whatever your reason(s)may be.

I do own a 2006 SRT-6 Crossfire. And so far, it’s been an excellent 2 seater. It gets good gas mileage (when driven correctly), it’s quiet inside even at 150+ MPH, and it handles like a dream. The braking system is the best I’ve driven, ever.

It is ugly, but there’s no mistaking it for everyone elses POS. I do like the fixed wing much better than that silly flip gadget found on the standard Crossfire. And I certainly like the SRT 15 spoke wheels much better.

The bottom line here is, my SRT Crossfire doesn’t look like all those dime-a-dozen Mustangs, and other “me-too” cars comming out of Detriot. And I can certainly blow them away on the race track (done this more times than I care to remember).

With all this being said, unless you are an owner (or have been an owner)of a Crossfire your “opinion” is worth precisely nothing…
