Chrysler is going on a hiring spree at its Belvidere, Illinois production facility in order to support production of its new Dodge Dart compact sedan.

Chrysler will hire between 400-500 new employees at the Belvidere plant, according to the Detroit Free Press. Chrysler is hiring both part-time and temporary full-time workers for the plant’s existing two shifts.

Chrysler has indicated that it will eventually add a third shift to the plant – which also produces the Jeep Compass and Patriot – but no official decision has yet been made on that matter.

The new employees will help ensure the launch of the new Dart goes as smoothly as possible. The Dart is a critical vehicle for Chrysler as it represents the company’s first credible small car in years. The Dart is also the first vehicle to be fully born of Chrysler’s strategic partnership with Fiat.
