The move is part of Marchionne's quest to put an end to product overlapping among the divisions of the Chrysler group.
Marchionne did not specify when to expect the crossover but we wouldn't be surprised to see it debut in 2014 as a 2015 model.
A venomous Dart
Racing enthusiasts rejoice: Marchionne also confirmed that Chrysler's performance-oriented SRT division is currently developing a production-bound hot-rodded variant of the recently-launched Dart sedan.
"The only thing we're fighting over now is to determine how big an engine we stick in it," affirmed Marchionne.
When it launches, expect the SRT Dart to feature much more aggressive styling than its already-sleek Dodge-badged counterpart.
No more Compass
The last bit of big news for the Chrysler group's future lineup is that the Jeep Compass will be phased out in August of 2014. Marchionne is keeping his lips shut about what it will be replaced by, saying only that "there are a number of candidates to take the place of the Compass."
The most likely candidate to replace the Compass (and possibly the Patriot, too) is an upcoming B-segment Jeep SUV that is rumored to launch in 2014. It will share its platform with a retro-styled Fiat-badged model dubbed 500X.
