What DC needs to do is to build this car and the Imperial concept. However, rename the Imperial concept with another name like Newport or Fifth Avenue and create a new luxury car division called Imperial. You hear Caddy and Lincoln drivers talk and when Chrysler comes up, it is talked down to the level of Buick or Mercury. Let Chrysler exist and go head to head with Buick and Mercury.

I agree the viper should be under 60k as it really isn't worth anymore than that.. If they dropped it to that they might actually sell enough of them to make it worth their time to produce them and start making some money... DUHHHHH!!...

Not a real loss. Would have sold about as well as the Crossfire (from former Crossfire customers).

They should have built the Razor.

oh and with regards to pricing, why not just drop the viper to $59,000 cause im sure they make a hefty profit on the 13 they sold last year, and make the firepower $65-70,000. If they can drop that viper motor into the SRT-10 Ram for $42k, what the hell are you paying double that for with the viper? Honestly? The cost of producing a viper body over a ram body certainly isnt an extra $42k.

Would have been nice if they built it, but obviously the beancounters said NO.

In 2005 it would have been good. Now it would be not so much.....

Since the pussies at Chrysler are not going to do this, can I have that bodywork and underlying chassis so I can rip the engine out of my truck and pop it in there? Baddest ass car in Austin.

Sharif, u said POS, too. You can say POS if u've been in or driven any production vehicle. Not a concept car. Its really stupid and lame to say POS for that. (nothing to do with Firepower, just in general)

Although I do think its a nice car it is not in Chrysler's place to lose their mind to start diluting their line-up like Benz because Chrysler in all honesty gets no respect. Although i could see this car coming out in five years if Chrysler can start fixing their name just like Saturn started fixing their name this year. This car would have been crazy fast cause Chrysler does make good engines its just the car would never sell with such a lousy rep. When I said POS ^^^ I was not dissing the car, I was dissing the plan.

Lets be honest, this POS of shit would never sell. First off if it is priced below a viper than every one would buy the corvette. If its priced with the viper then everyone is going to buy the viper or the corvette and keep the extra cash which is what i would do. If it's priced above the viper then everyone is going to buy the SL 500, and if its priced above the SL 500 everyone is going to buy an Aston Martin. And if it's priced above the Aston Martin everyone is going to point and laugh at it. Lets not forget that the areas in between the price levels of all of these cars are owned by Porsche. Regardless if its a nice car and if it is clearly better than its competition Chrysler is just a bad name. And if Chrysler wants to sell expensive cars they are going to have to work on their reputation issues. Not many people would think of putting anything over 50,000 on a Chrysler as a smart move.

P.S.

When I say possibly built off of the 300 platform, I am talking about the upcoming stretch 300 platform that was recently introduced by Chrysler aimed at the limousine/livery market that the aging Lincoln Town Car now holds a lucrative share in.... (you ever notice the amount of Lincoln Town Cars in NYC???? Reason one why the Town Car lives!)

Well, there was a time when Chrysler would show a "concept" car at an auto show that was a lightly disguised version of the actual production car (Concorde, 300, Prowler, to name a few), but more than likely things are up in the air as Daimler will more than likely be selling off Chrysler, so to invest heavily in a platform for the Firepower wold not make any sense financially.

However, it is more likely that the Imperial will come to production as there are those that are impressed with the styling (I myself think it is polarizing.....you either like it or you do not, which to me is the sign of good design.....it evokes an emotion or dry-heave, take your pick! :) )

Wit the Imperial, most of the tooling is in place as it would be built either off of the existing 300 platform or the rumored upcoming Mercedes R-Class platform. In either case, no huge financial investment would be necessary for the Imperial as opposed to the Firepower, and if Daimler does sell Chrysler, Chrysler will have thge Imperial flagship and will not have the current worry about Imperial pricing being too close to Mercedes offerings in that 50 - 60K price range...

Just a logical thought.....

Yeah, I'm with GL1. This should have been built on the Viper platform, but with V-8 engines and geared toward greater roadability, and coupe only. It wouldn't have been an SL competitor; it would have rivalled the Corvette, which would have been fantastic. I had hoped that the Firepower would goad Ford into building the Mercury Messenger (maybe with a better name), from the Mustang platform, but shortened to a two-seater with IRS and a supercharged eight. THAT was a gorgeous vehicle.

This is a piss poor and gutless decission on mopars part indeed. this was supposed to come out under the Viper at about 65k or so as I saw it at Barrett jackson and it is REALLY REALLY SWEET. They would have sold LOTS of these if it was in the 65k range and likely cut into Corvettes market share, which I thought was the WHOLE IDEA behind the Forepower in the first place.. The ONLY thing I didn't like about the Hemi powered firepower was the Name the rest was near perfect.. Whats wrong with Mopar no guts ? or what ? BUILD IT MOPAR.. IT'LL SELL..

I say "Too bad, Chrysler."

They could have done something to build a version of this car in the 30k range with a completely different engine. Or maybe they COULD have tried marketing the concept as is with the Hemi engine. Whatever. They are shooting themselves in the foot as far as I am concerned.

The Firepower is beautiful design that if built would have done well in the high-end market. However, as others have pointed out, it would be competing with market segment that includes Mercedes, and since Daimler is prepping to sell-off Chrysler why would they want to have production tooling, buildings, etc. on the books for a prospective client? Also, the Firepower may very well go with Daimler and not Chrysler after the sale.

I agree Scott.
The Firepower should have been priced above a Viper. But that gets into MB SL500 territory which is a no-no

Going below Viper would basically cannibalize the Viper and CL500 sales. Basically the Firepower was done in by its stablemates. They should offer a Vipoer-"Fireppower" package. Basically take a viper- Trick it out to look like a Firepower. I guess tha gets us back to the SL500 problem.

Personally I don't see Firepower buyers crsoss shopping SL500's but I guess the daimler bean counters would

Poor Firepower- we knew you not at all.

I thought the Firepower was based on the Viper. So what's the need for a new architecture?

God I hope they don't build the Imperial. I think it'd be a real shame if they canceled the Firepower, which is beautiful, and decided to build the Imperial, which is hideous (I saw it in person at the Chicago Auto show last February). I really don't like the direction Chrysler's styling is taking these days.

If Mercedes is considering buying Mclaren then it would make the Firepower a direct rival to the Mclaren if both are produced.

That sucks, looks pretty cool. I think that it would have done pretty well. I dont know about it being cheeper than a dodge Viper, It would have been more im sure do to having its own platform. But it would have been sweet.
