FCA recalls Jeep Cherokee to bleed brakes

The vehicles were built with insufficient coating on the rear caliper pistons, causing gas pockets to form.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced a recall for 154,000 vehicles from the 2018-2019 model years including the Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Journey and Dodge Grand Caravan.

Some of the crossovers were built with insufficient chrome coating on the rear brake calipers. The issue causes gas pockets to form in the brake system.

"Gas pockets in the brake system may result in a reduction in rear brake performance, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning," the company wrote in its mandatory notice to regulators.

Rather than replacing the defective components, service technicians will simply re-bleed the brake system to remove bubbles from the fluid.

"FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents, and the Company's investigation revealed no customer complaints," the automaker said in a statement.
