Chrysler met its employee buyout goal for 2007 – more than 1,000 salaried and 6,000 hourly workers were granted buyout or early retirement packages, according to a memo sent to its employees yesterday by CEO Tom LaSorda.
The Detroit Free Press reports that Chrysler wants to shed its workforce by about 13,000 jobs over the course of three years. This year, Chrysler had planned to cut 1,000 salaried and 59,000 hourly jobs. More than 7,600 hourly employees applied for buyouts, though only 6,000 were granted.
