Citroën C-Catus Concept

09/05/2007, 9:24 AM

By Drew Johnson

Citroën has announced that it will unveil its environmentally-friendly C-Cactus concept at next week’s Frankfurt Auto Show. As the name implies, the C-Cactus is designed to consume very little. The majority of the materials used to make the C-Cactus are either recycled or recyclable.

The 100 horsepower C-Cactus uses a diesel-hybrid powertrain mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Citroën claims the setup yields 81 miles per gallon.

The car’s interior continues with minimalist theme and is constructed from just 200 parts, about half the amount of a typical hatchback the size of the C-Cactus. Engineers say this was achieved by abandoning all non-essential features–dashboard buttons were moved to the steering wheel, side windows are fixed glass with sliding panels among several other ideas.

Perhaps even more impressive than all of the C-Cactus’ eco-friendly features is that Citroën says that if the car makes it to production, it would be priced the same as its entry-level C4.

This is kinda neat, though they need to ditch the weird front bumper portholes and stupid leaf pattern on the inside.

WTF? Mr. Garrison is Citroen’s design head??? Reminds me of that South Park episode where he invents an alternative form of transportation that requires the rider to use more than just their hands and legs to control it…this car could be his evolution!!!

Very odd. I liked the C5 convertible concept much better (that was a truly beautiful design). This car just looks awkward, but a lot of French vehicles look that way.

Obviously got that MINI Cooper thing going. It’s weird-looking, but I will take a car with a definite design signature over one that’s plain and anonymous, like the Civic.

I love those telephone-dial rims, as seen on some Alfa Romeos from the last decade i.e. GTV coupé and 156

It is different. I don’t like it, but I keep reminding myself that I love the look of DS-21yet in 1957 it must’ve been viewed as the ugliest car on the planet. This is Citroen after all, perhaps they know more then I do.

Futuristic, somewhat ugly yet cool. I suspect the design grows on you.

It’s cool. I like the design language, and the rims are wicked. I’m all for a minimalist movement in interior design – I went bat**** over the dodge razor, before they scrapped plans to build it

I’ve been tented since I saw this on SeriousWheels a few days ago. I could live without the eco-signature leaves pattern in the interior, but I love the interior layout and the effort to intorduce some decor is welcome. Theexterior is brilliant; check out that stance and the butch rump. Every time I look at it I feel like Deanster in a schoolyard.
