Citroen teases Frankfurt-bound concept: Revival of the 2CV?

09/08/2009, 9:18 AM

By Drew Johnson

Citroen has released a teaser image of a Frankfurt Motor Show-bound compact concept. Although the French automaker failed to give any details on the forthcoming concept – only giving the car’s September 15th debut date – it appears the concept could preview a new-age 2CV.

Rumors of Citroen’s revival of the 2CV nameplate have been swirling for years, and it looks as though Citroen’s answer to the MINI Cooper and Fiat 500 may finally come to fruition. The car depicted in the teaser shot clearly shows a curved hood, large wheel arches and half-circle windows – all signature design cues of the original 2CV.

No word on powertrains as of yet, but expect to see a range of fuel-sipping gas and diesel engines, as well as at least one high-performance version to take on the Cooper S and 500 Abarth.

Check back for more details and live images after the Citroen concept takes to the Frankfurt stage on September 15th.

It looks like a [more] retarded PT Cruiser.
And those rims are hideous.

I agree with A4, It looks a lot like a PT Cruiser, I also see some Fiat 500 in it.

The rims look a lot like Lamborghini’s Reventon rims.

Gotta echo A4, it looks like a PT Cruiser and from what little I can see those rims look stupid.

Why don’t car companies start worrying about the cars they already have and can’t sell, rather than inventing new ones that won’t sell in this economy either……

looks like a cross-breeding abomination attempt between a VW Beetle and a PT Cruiser, luckily its a Citroen and the US will not see this in the future..

The name must be DS2, the French won’t spoil 2CV on this one. Now stop talking about it’s design. You haven’t seen it yet.

TomF- you obviously have no idea what the 2CV meant to the auto world when it first came out. Ignorance is bliss !
