Citroen’s reborn DS3 has spawned its first major limited edition model, the DS3 Racing. Although hardly true to the DS’ heritage as a sophisticated cruiser aimed at well-heeled buyers, the new DS3 is nonetheless inspired by Citroen’s rally victories.
Just 1,000 DS3 Racing vehicles will be built, each powered by a modified 1.6-liter turbocharged four cylinder that puts out an impressive 200 horsepower and 203 lb-ft. of torque. For the most part, the changes were limited to remapping the engine control unit and adding in a higher-performance exhaust system.
Citroen has also altered the DS3′s steering for more control and added in stiffer springs, unique shock absorbers and a slightly wider track for better road holding. It rides on special 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the DS3 Racing gains carbon fiber trim, orange detailing and Citroen Racing sports seats. Each car is individually numbered with a special dash-mounted tag.
The DS3 Racing is most notable outside for its orange detailing and orange-painted roof. It will come exclusively in dark grey.
Each DS3 Racing will start life as a standard DS3 before being transferred into the company’s Citroen Racing workshop for special fitment of the unique trim pieces.
