[Updated with live images] Citroen Hypnos Hybrid HYmotion4 concept unveiled

We got a brief look at the Citroen’s Hypnos Hybrid concept in early September, but today the French automaker fully uncovered its exotic crossover concept to the press at the Paris Motor Show. Dubbed the Hypnos Hybrid concept, the coupe-like concept will follow the design pattern first laid out by Infiniti’s FX range but will add in a serious bit of green credentials.

The Hypnos’ design is definitely striking and follows the recent styling trend toward four-door coupes. Like the FX, the Hypnos features a long hood and a dramatic rear drop off.

Underhood, the Hypnos uses a 200 horsepower internal combustion engine, paired to a new “HYmotion4″ hybrid powertrain. Although total output remains a mystery, Citroen claims that the sleek ‘ute can return better than 52 mpg.

The HYmotion4’s architecture optimises the performance of the diesel-electric drivetrain with a rear-mounted electric motor that drives the rear wheels, while the diesel engine runs the front wheels, providing a whole new type of all-wheel drive.

Also notable is the Hypnos’ wild multicolored interior — perhaps a statement that “green” certainly doesn’t have to mean bland.

They aren’t SERIOUS about that interior, are they? If someone told me to get in, I’d be like, “Um, I think I’ll just walk…” Although the headrest coming from the roof is kind of a cool idea, what would happen in a rollover? And how do you move the seat and headrest forward or backward? And instead of calling “shotgun”, do you just say “yellow!”?

Personally I think I’d be a bit claustrophobic in this thing, just because of the high beltline. Really I don’t like how vehicles are getting higher and higher beltlines/windows. Looks nice, but not very functional…
