LamboZ - Tell that to all the anti GM people that have similar stories and points...

Veda - with a story like that, I am suprised there hasn't been anyone asking what you may have ingested prior to setting off on your trip. To be driving and not notice a wheel has fallen off your car, might prompt some to ask if you wouldn't mind "sharing" ;)

I doubt Citroen will be sold here even if Canada buys them up. Canada and the United States have very different ideologies. One political flap between the French and the US will put Citroen out of business here, where as it would probably boost sales in Canada. The french wine market was put into shambles when this country as a whole boycotted French wines. I would say the same thing about Chinese cars too. Considering China is blinding our sattelites and such, the political climate between the US and China is getting a wee bit chilly. I wouldn't be wasting any money on importing Chinese cars anytime soon. Whether you like it or not, the US is made up of red and blue patriots and nationalists.

"They should form a sales alliance...." from global_lightning, what an excellent idea, I have created a similar plan for Italian clothing in the past...some 20yrs ago when I was a youngster. That works!!!....so, when do we start to raise the funds for it ....(would be great, but I am living in Europe)

Citroëns are in America for a lot of years already. In Argentina or Chile (it´s south, but America) you can find a lot of them (and Renaults, Peugeots, Seat or Fiat). I don´t really like Citroëns but the C4 is a great car. It´s very well designed but it´s true that you won´t find the quality or reliability you find on other cars of the segment. They´re cheaper but worse than Renault or Peugeot, for example.

They should form a sales alliance with Alfa Romeo, then channel Jaguar/Land Rover from Ford and Saab from GM. Imagine the dealerships with Euro themes opening in the yuppier parts of town, sales staff consisting of hot women in lethally short skirts and metrosexual guys, especially posh waiting areas ("croissants and capuccino while you get your oil changed"), and a really beefed up service department...

Can't think of a single French car that didn't ultimately fail in sales or any significant market share here... I'm glad I was able to get rid of the 55 Peugeots that plaqued my fleet.

French cars do not have a particularly good track record in the U.S.
But, everyone deserves a second chance.

If French cars are coming to America... does that mean that the French predilication for torching French cars will be coming over as well?

:-P

(remember the 'youth' riots that struck through France a few months ago...)

Actually, if we're talking technicalities, I would like to point out that my awesome nation of Canada is not in "America," but rather it is one of many nations in the Western hemisphere collectively known as "The Americas."

And we actually do have a number of cars that are, as far as I understand, not available in "The States," such as the Mercedes-Benz B-Class. Although it hardly makes up for not getting the GTO and the Evo. And if I were to jaunt across the border and buy one, I'd have to pay a ridiculous amount of tax on it. Free trade, indeed.

Oh, right, Citroen. Canada's a happily multicultural society, and (a sort of) French is already an official language. I'm excited to have even more cars to criticize.

The most interesting story I had was with a Citroen back in the early 80's. I was going on a vacation to the mountain when the guy in the car next to me started shouting and pointing at the side of the road. What I saw was a tire rolling alongside my car, it was one of my front wheel that had came loose, yet the car handled just as well on 3 wheels. Anyway, Citroen is overall a piece of crap but interesting memories regardless.

America? If Citroen arrives in Canada, it is technically in "America".

Unless perhaps you mean the United States - known as "The States" to most Americans not living in the middle part of the northern continent;-)

Just give me the C2 and C4 - all I'd want is a nippy little compact car that saves fuel and has more character than the endless stream of Chevy Aveos you see here in Canada.

GM should rent out it's floor space, and whatever shipping process they will use to get the Opel parts/cars into the United States.

Great news to hear. I really like some of their designs (from watching Top Gear) and welcome the additional competition.

Dealer networking will be a huge issue. It was easier for Smart because all they had to do was latch onto existing MB dealerships.

Would anyone give Citroen dealership floorspace?
