Citroen C5 Airscape Concept

08/21/2007, 9:02 AM

By Drew Johnson

Citroen has released pictures of its C5 Airscape coupe-cabriolet concept. The concept should also give us a good idea of what the C5 sedan will look like when it debuts at either the Frankfurt or Geneva Auto Show. The 4-seater coupe-cabriolet looks like it has a conventional cloth top, but it actually has a roof entirely made of carbon.

The C5 Airscape is powered by a 208 horsepower 2.7 liter V6 HDi and uses a Snow Motion traction control system that promises traction close to that of an all-wheel drive car. The C5 Airscape is also equipped with what Citroen calls an “UrbanHybrid” system. The system basically stores energy recovered during the deceleration and braking phases and it uses it not only for the onboard network (air conditioning, radio etc.) but also to temporarily boost engine torque when required. It also shuts off the engine when the vehicles is at a standstill, starting it again at the touch of the accelerator pedal.

The C5 Airscape will be shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Man, I love Citroens. That’s gorgeous.

Explain to me how a car with the footprint of a Chrysler Sebring can come out looking so beautiful when Citroen does it and like such a piece of **** when Chrysler does it.

Stunning. It’s been a while since I lived in Europe, how is Citroen’s quality these days?

Very nice except for the HUGE front over-hang – looks like a new VW Passat from the front wheels forward

Citroën’s quality is, like all other french manufacturers, steadily improving to german standards, much better than before, and PSA diesels are really good, though I must say that this looks a bit conservative for a Citroën.

TomF… the Sebring convertibles have always been nice looking, good running cars. We still have our ‘97, only having to change a tie-rod end in 85,000 miles and it only cost me $60 and 40 minutes of my time. I don’t like the new sedans but the new convertibles are a great looking car inside and out, especially with the power hardtop.

What can I say about this car?? It’s french… that’s about it.
