I really don’t get all the fuss. The dash is a mess and from the outside it looks like an egg. I was hoping that cab-forward died with the Chrysler Concorde.

Looks a bit like a Saab from the side.

But yeah, good job Honda for taking the Civic in a bold new direction (though the dashboard is wack). The advertising is right on, too, with music from popular indie bands like Guster. The people who listen to music like that is who you want to attract. Furthermore, Honda’s sponsoring all the right events that young people care about. They obviously knows what’s hip. GM could take some cues from them. Instead of promoting their “American Revolution” crap (seriously, Aveo = American?), which today’s youth don’t give a damn about, why not stop hating on the Japanese so much and being all defensive against them and instead take a more proactive stance on marketing?

I’m impressed by those triangular driving lights. Kudos again to Honda for taking a risk on design. Somebody else did that in 2002, and although at first their designs were nearly universally disapproved of, people have warmed up to the unconventional styling of their vehicles and have started snapping them up. Who am I talking about? BMW. It just goes to show you that futuristic design is unique and will still be turning heads far down the road. So thank you Honda for making a car for which people will say, “hey, that’s the new Civic!” instead of “what just passed me?” (Or maybe it will be the other way around!) Anyway, it’s companies like Honda that will hopefully encourage the market to stop making boring cars, unless you’re Chevrolet.

I applaud Honda for their gusto in releasing a space-age looking vehicle to the consumer, but honestly, the more I look at the new Civic (American version anyway) the less I like it. It looks like a bubbly, flying-saucer to me. That MASSIVE windshield really detracts for the profile of the car and that dashboard is just awkward.

Honda hit a homerun with it’s new Civic – it’s design was so upgraded that Toyota delayed release it’s new Corolla after they got a look at the Civic – their new design for the Corolla was not agressive enough to compete. I predict Honda will sell every Civic they can possibly make.

How could one not agree on that? It’s the first time a company has the guts to actually ship a model in such a concept-like design.
It’s because of moves like this that car companies get a little more audacious when it comes to producing a vehicle.
Not to talk about the quality of Honda cars, in general. All of these things make of the Civic a car I’d buy (preferably a type-R one, though)
