Clarkson drives the Alfa 159

Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame got a chance to test the new Alfa Romeo 159. Clarkson praised the the car’s unique styling and impressive engine. “In a tunnel, at 4000rpm, it was more sonorous than any music.” Of course, he also pointed to some downsides in the way that only Jeremy Clarkson can do. Most of the complaints related to poor placement of dials and buttons, as well as finicky electronics. “The greatest sensation of speed afforded to ordinary man is not on a go-kart or a rollercoaster,” writes Clarkson. “It comes when you’ve got the cruise control set at 70mph, the traffic in front is stopping and momentarily you can’t find the button to turn it off. In that hiccup of time it doesn’t feel like you’re doing 70mph. It feels like you’re doing three times the speed of light.”

I think that part about the engine sounding great at 4000rpm was him talking about his old GTV6 that he owned. But still its great that he liked the car so much.
Thanks for the great stories leftlanenews.

Long live the Italian 24v V6! Clarkson’s quite right, the 159 is rather toit. Now, roll on Spring, I wanna see his review of the new Jaguar XK. Well, and the Ferrari 599 for that matter…
