Last week, Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson had fans of the British TV show up in arms over the suggestion that he might leave the program and producers might increase the focus on celebrity appearances. Now, Clarkson insists the show will go on.
“Last week I said there will not be a new series of Top Gear this summer. And everyone seems to think the programme is finished or that I’ve left,” Clarkson wrote in an article published Sunday.
“Well, sorry to disappoint you all, but it isn’t and I haven’t. Top Gear, providing one of us doesn’t go upside down again, will be back in the autumn.”
Just a week earlier, Clarkson said “we don’t know when we’ll be back,” and denied plans for as summer special.

You already knew it was going to go on, because this whole issue was a just a contract dispute for more money.

I already knew it was coming back, LLN’s original post was an OVERREACTION. I knew it was coming back the same day they posted that because the BBC had already posted a reply saying it was coming back in the Autumn.
Don’t post something that isn’t confirmed.

This is a perfect example of what makes Clarkson so entertaining. He can spout off a fantastically absolute opinion one day, and then change it completely the next.

Not that it was ever in question. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if the BBC did cancel Top Gear, as they are the worst-run broadcasting company in the world. A perfect example of how anything with government’s hand in it is doomed to mediocrity.
The up-side is we still get to see some really nice cars run around the track, the down-side is we still have to watch the snob hosts bash anything that’s not an Aston Martin.

I gather it was about the BBC tightening up Health and Safety to the point where it was getting hard to actually film anything. Clarkson is a hardline opponent of the ‘nanny state’ and rants about how soft everyone has become whenever he gets a chance.

That is a very, ermm, “arty” shot of Clarkson. Hope he really did win the battle not to take Top Gear too far down the chat show route.

Yeah, yeah, Clarkson sucks, the show is so anti-this or pro-that, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah… It’s still the best automotive show out there by a long shot. Clarkson, May and Hammond are entertaining and, like I’ve said before, the worst Top Gear episode is still considerably better than any car show on US television.
