Cobalt now a moneymaker for GM

09/08/2008, 8:41 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Chevrolet’s marketing manager for small cars, Brian Brown, says that transaction prices – and also profits – are up for the compact Chevrolet Cobalt. General Motors has long had difficulty selling small cars profitably in the U.S., but with fuel costs on the minds of many buyers, sales, and thus profits, are up for the Cobalt.

Brown told Automotive News that profit per Cobalt sold is up 6 percent since last year and sales overall are up nearly 10 percent for 2008. Sales were down in August for the Cobalt, but GM says that’s because supply was down. All of this bodes well for the upcoming Cruze compact.

Demand for the Ohio-built Cobalt is partially up because of GM’s push for more efficient models and marketing, like the efficiency-oriented Cobalt XFE.

So “marketing” helps sell cars, huh?
They should keep this a secret less the other guys find out.

The Cobalt is NOW a moneymaker? So for the last 4 years it hasn’t been? Hell of a way to run a business.

lol where is More Oil for GM?? I’m surprised these haven’t been hot sellers for a long time. Every hillbilly whitetrash hick in Indiana drives them. Sometimes they even spring for 4 doors!

Wow, Nightblack is being censored? I didn’t even know he was capable of such mischief. The problem with editing posts is that it piques our curiosity as to what was said. Maybe instead of editing the post, it would be better to completely delete the post. That way, those of us that didn’t see it never even know it existed, and we won’t know that it was edited. Just a thought…

Great, the Cobalt is finally making money, so lets change the name!
Not only that we will change it to the Gayest, worst name in the car business!
Thats a plan right?

For crying out loud, GM, KEEP the name Cobalt.
If you must change it, try Nova or Monza or something that doesn’t make me want to projectile vomit.

Yeah, can’t say I really like Cruze, but then when the Cobalt first came out I was like what the hell is a Cobalt, besides an element and color…

Best thing with the Cobalt, is that if you opt for the sportier Cobalt SS Turbocharged you get practicality, fuel efficiency, and some of the best performance you can get out of a FWD vehicle, for a bargain price.
