Columnist: Kirk Kerkorian gambler, not builder

08/05/2006, 1:25 PM

By admin

Kirk Kerkorian and Jerome York are interested in orchestrating an alliance between GM and Renault/Nissan in order to make a quick buck, says Washington Post columnist Warren Brown. “Kerkorian and York would love to see Ghosn at GM’s helm, not so much because that management change would do anything meaningful for GM, Nissan or Renault, but because the simple announcement of a Ghosn takeover could boost GM’s stock value, a development that would make billionaire Kerkorian and, by proxy, York, richer than they already are,” wrote Brown. “Kerkorian and York are in it strictly for the money, as readily shown by their various corporate histories of buying and selling positions in companies, with little discernible regard for the quality of products or services provided by those companies.”

I have been saying that ever since the beginning! Kerkorian dont care about GM or their future!.. Hes in it for the money.. He could care less if GM goes under in the years to come as long as he made his billions! Im hoping that this “alliance” dont go through and GM continues with its turn around plan which seems to be working! I also believe that if Ghosn took over he would take GM down. Look at Nissan.. hes plans only look at short term profits!.. To make it in the automotive world you have to think about the long term like the people at the head of GM are doing! Plus I really doubt that Ghosn taking GMs head spot would boost stock!.. GM needs to continue what they are doing and forget about this so called “alliance” with Nissan! And Kerkorian needs to stop being like the rest of big business that only care about making an extra billion! Once again.. GM needs to contuniue their current path.. simply because kerkorian is an ass whole and also because the turnaround plan IS working!!

Obvious…
‘What do you expect of any ‘investor’?!….
Old news…

The sad/funny thing: you could sub Kirkorian, et al with current management and write something like:

“….with little discernible regard for the quality of products or services provided.”

So true, as I said before, smiling faces tell lies. As long as Kirk & Jerry, and the 3rd stooge Carlos can make a buck, everybody else be damned…..

Kerkorian married professional tennis player Lisa Bonder, for one month in 1999. He was involved in a breach of privacy suit filed against him by Steve Bing. Kerkorian claimed Bing was the father of Lisa Bonder’s daughter, which was later established via DNA testing. His corporation’s name–Tracinda–is an amalgam of the names of his 2 daughters: Tracey and Linda.

35 years of burning people with half baked products. I don’t know why anyone would give them a chance anymore.

What is the point of this article? “Investor wants Profit”? Wow!

Warren Brown (and Jim Mateja in the Chicago Trib) are the worst car writers around.

I think the point is to remember that kekorian is not a knight in shining armor to save GM and all those employees. He is there to make money for himself.

Not everyone thinks as clearly as you do.

Not everyone thinks as clearly as you do. Many thought he was coming in to save the company. He does not care if it goes out of business. As long as the stock goes high enough so he can csh out.

chris2 you are absolutely right. And what people don’t realize is there IS an impact on all of us, we all have a stake in a healthy GM, whether we like the product or not, been burned before or not, a healthy GM is good for the U.S. econmoy. We need that $85B in annual expenditures and all the jobs it supports, from suppliers to dry cleaners like me…..50% of my business is Ford employee’s, and I can tell ya first hand, I’m in trouble just like Ford is, as their emloyee’s are cutting back on expenditures in their personal lives…..and I have 6 mouths to feed.

you expect from any investor to want to make green $$$. But you don’t expect an investor to orchestrate one of the biggest alliances between two (or three) of the biggest companies, and he does it out of greed. He’s already a billionaire and as stated before around 90, what does he need more money for??
He thinks about short term profits but not the long term health of the company

All this hand wringing when you folks seem happy that the Gvmt. spends like drunk bible thumpers … happy to save so much money at Walmart buying Chinese clothes that used to be made here … happy to read your 401k statement when your net worth increases because some compnay laid off 20% of their workforce to increase profitability … get all giddy at the announcement of a new 500hp Mustang/Camaro/Charger when gas is headed to $4.

…..and you get pissy when some rich guy acts like a rich guy?! I sense it’s more envy: a classic christian trait.

We live in America. God gave us every chance and oppportunity to rock. To rock both personally and as well as financially.
Just because Kerkorian bought some stocks in GM does not make him a greedy armenian.
God bless him. I want him to make more and more because he is helping more and more people.

Guys, comon, he is a very good man and God bless him

Kirk Kirkorian is in general motors for the long haul he knows that general motors has built the finest cars in the world and that 10% ownership means royalties from all of gm’s popular classic autos world famous.Kirk will make billions in the long run when gm comes back as the world leader again merging with renault and nissan as daimler chrysler has done the same reason banks merge to be more cost effective and putting talents and engineering skills together as daimler chrysler has done.Kirk Krikorian would be crazy to sell out his 10% share now because his stocks would more than double in the near future.GM has a reputation as the finest and GM’s best years are ahead with new hybrid cars as well hydrogen cars as GM works with NASA to integrate this technology into their cars.GM could very well buy into technology companies increasing its profits by diversification believe me GM has huge potential.GM days of glory are just begining with a new 21 century with new and emerging technologies putting GM at the cutting edge helm.Kirkorian could be worth 50-100 billion in 5 to 10 years or his heirs would be if he has the insight to see all this.I am armenian like Kirk Kirkorian and I see this as I am only 40 years old and can foresee GM’s potential future with the upcoming technology future of endless new products with unlimited income. My father loved GM cars and I have collected many cars and still have model cars of all the 30 some GM cars my dad owned over his 40 some years buying them.I came home as a baby in a 1962 Chevrolet Impala as this is still a favorite collectible today as the impala has come back and is popular today. My dad’s favor was his first new 1970 cadillac as I was 4 years old when he bought it new off the showroom floor.GM I am looking forward to your bright future to return as you are a hallmark in quality and excellance a legend in automotive history I am looking forward to purchasing more of your innovative products of quality and excellance.
