They have built a car that looks good on the inside and the outside and is not a rip off of someone else’s design like ford did with the new fusion and trying to make it look like a cousin of Aston Martin or as Chrysler 300 trying to look like a Bentley Phanton. The car has great fuel efficiency for the turbo and can still do 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds. My next family car is going to be either Kia Turbo or the new Mazda 6 which is also packing lots of tech to increase fuel efficiency.

I think the conversion rate does a bit of disservice here. If they had sold the same car for the same price in 2008, it would have only converted to about $20000 US. Hopefully, Toyota is aware that this pricing will not fly in the US.

Looks ugly and useless just like the CEO of Tesla. The guy who really started Tesla was kicked out and humiliated by Musk. He is not working for VW and developing the electric battery technology with them. He is some senior executive in development over there. Not a bad way to get revenge as he is not at the world’s largest automaker.

This has no reason to be offered in the States. You can already equip a TT-RS just like this. Wheels, exhaust, power, and all. The only think you can’t get is the S-Tronic tranny.

I am curious to know what they did for weight reduction though.

Still one of my favorite cars on the market and with the aid of AWD this is the fastest car 0-60 (3.6) under $90,000 on the market (GT-R). That is nice too.

I think the most important element of this article is what isn’t said. That is, that this is the engine that will most likely find its way under the hood of the Maserati Kubang. Up until now Marchionne said at the Detroit auto show that the SUV will be powered by a Ferrari twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 making upwards of 500 hp. This engine makes much more sense from a volume standpoint in the European market.

Why anyone would get one is beyond me. For a Fraction of the cost and more Power you could and should opt for the Mustang GT 500 (besides more class much cooler too) and still have plenty of money to boot. Its a waste of money if I am spending more than 1/2 Million dollars then I would either save my money or simply pony up another 1/2 mill plus another $200,000 more to get the car this thing tries to emulate but falls far short which is the Veyron!

Dont count GM because they have brands from around the world? So that negates the fact they have more employees in the US than any other car company by far? HAHA, ok then lets not count honda, toyota, hyundai, MB, VW, BMW in your crazy numbers because they own brands that arent american. I was wrong though, just about 2 years ago it was above 95,000 but due to their restructuring GM’s most current numbers are 69,000 US employees.

Well marketed and designed, a small truck could sell like hotcakes, for someone who wants the versatility of a truck, with better fuel economy. I love my ’07 Colorado, if Chevy’d kept the current style and just updated the things that people seem to b***h about the most (plastic interior, etc.), and then marketed it, it could’ve still done well. But they gave up on it, no advertising in how many years, and last time I went to a dealership, they only had one and it was parked all the way in the back.

Sadly, this new style is ugly as sin, hopefully by the time I’m ready for a new pickup I can either find a good used Colly on the used market, or that they’ve fixed the nose on this one to bring back the aggressive styling that the current body has. I won’t hold my breath. :-/

so this is one of these cars that Ford has allegedly lifted their new grille design on the upcoming 2013 fusion from. well, based on this Zagato , i’m sorry, but Ford clearly has made a better and more tasteful use of it then.

very exclusive? , well undoubtedly yes, beautiful?, highly debatable at the most! but where is all the rest? given the half-a-mill price tag. if i was after an exclusive collectors item (which this rather constitutes) in the automotive world, in this price range i’d clearly not buy one of these, but much rather a vintage classic. contemporary “exclusives” mostly just depreciate steeply (not that some loaded “more mony than brains” customers would actually care or even know about it) and once they (and that’s a big if) reverse the trend and start going the other direction again, they usually have gone through various owner`s hands throughout all the decades that it actually takes.

I prefer a key.

I keep my keys hanging on a belt clip, which hangs inside my pocket for silence at all times. I can unclip them without looking and have the key ready by the time I’m near the vehicle. I’ve always thought the fewer distractions the better, and the key makes an excellent weapon for self defence.

I agree. Was thinking the new Ford might be a good partner, having cut the leeches free (Mercury, Volvo, and Jag). Might a Mazda commission to design for Lincoln be the best of both worlds? ..and give Mazda the chance to develop larger more luxurious vehicles.

I considered Honda initially too. I bet Honda NAm would be interested, because it would finally allow them to put the sport completely out of their Honda/Acura lines. Then they could kill the Si, NSX, etc…those cars are thorns in the new Honda NAm’s Acura aspirations (to rival Toyota/Lexus) even if they fail at it.
Lets face it, the NSX was forced back on Acura by Honda JP. Mendel and his hierarchy of cronies hate it. But Honda
JP/Europe is different and wont be interested in Mazda’s
collaboration/competition at all – or losing the sport models that currently compete with Mazda. Honda is a very insular company. Its just managed by idiots in the US.
