Confirmed: ‘Blue Devil’ Corvette a go

05/02/2006, 9:10 AM

By admin

GM’s head of performance cars Tom Wallace has confirmed to AutoWeek that the company will build a much-rumored ‘Blue Devil’ Corvette. According to the report, the car will have around 600 horsepower. Wallace said GM is actually considering requiring purchasers of the Blue Devil — and maybe the Z06, too — attend a driving school as part of the price. We’ll keep you posted as more details emerge…

I think we are seeing some actual ’smart’ decisions being made at GM!! How about that! Considering how many variants of the 911 are sold, they are smart to be pushing the Vette the way they are. High publicity, and high exclusivity for the Z06 and now the ‘Blue devil’. can’t wait to see it….

I really like this. I am sure that this thing wil have crazy performace for the money. The problem is, to most people, it will still just be a Vette. For a car that will be near $100,000, you won’t be offered much exclusivity. On the other hand, it will be ablt to blow the doors off nearly everything on the road.

I hate GM and most of its products, but the C6 and all of its varients are really appealing to me for the amount of performance for the money.

When’s dodge going to bring the GTS-R back. Just saw one the other days parked at a “high End” restaurant. I don’t think ford should be that worried. Owning a Dodge(srt4) myself, I hope dodge fires back soon with a “special” srt-10 viper.

Oh wait, they already had a GTS-R. Nevermind!

And they wonder why they are making a loss. Is chrysler group the only american firm that is acting like the are threatened by the asian maker and doing somethinng about it. Would explain why they are the only one making a profit and not carwhich will be pointed in a few years when they are DEAD.

P.S. Rather buy a Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe Hennessey. better looking, faster and about the same price.

Yeah that damn GM, spending all their money on the corvette instead of other cars. (sarcasm). Sorry guys, this will suck the doors off anything that ever says ford or dodge on it. Hopefully they differentiate the styling more from the ZO6.

yeah, it’ll blow the doors off the current Viper… which goes away for a year and comes back…

THEN this doesn’t stand up… Did you think that the Viper team was going to sit back and let the corvette take the lead?

The rumor is that the McLaren team has been given the go for the next gen Viper… that engine, or a variation of it, is going to be the motor for the next gen… and those HP numbers ARE conservative…

^^^ according to the 0 to 60 times in that link, the ASC Diamondback Viper(3.5 sec) is only about as fast as a current ZO6 (3.4 sec), so this Blue Devil will be king.

maybe 3.5 secs with some traction?

lol Derek, the current Z06 doesn’t do 0 to 60 in 3.4 sec. The most optimistic time I have seen is 3.7

I have seen 3.4 in a mag, as well as 3.6. GM claims 3.7, in first gear.

I am sure GM would have said 3.4 if it indeed could do that. Mags tend to overexaggerate things.

Awesome! Not only am I looking forward to the Blue Devil, but as a Camaro man this makes it all the more likely that Chevy would shove an LS7 in the top model Camaro (hopefully ZL1). Now that the corvette fans can still have their top dog, maybe they won’t mind letting us the LS7. Plus the new GT500 will officially have 500hp as of today, don’t drop the ball Chevy.

driving school.. good idea! i saw a redneck in a Z06 yesterday crash into a curb after trying to do a burnout. i couldnt help but to laugh at the guy.

3.5 for the diamondback: the current platform (the next will be lighter) with 3.07 gears (vs 3.80 for the z06) and a engine that is down-tuned.

rumored for the next viper is more than 700hp…plus more torque

Once again… do you think that CG is going to say: ok chevy, we’ll let you take this spot…
