Conservative groups renew Ford boycott

03/14/2006, 8:29 AM

By admin

A group of 19 conservative groups yesterday resumed a boycott of Ford because the automaker went back on a supposed pledge to stop advertising in publications aimed at homosexuals, reports the Detroit News. The yearlong boycott is led by the American Family Association. The group believes Ford has not “remained neutral in the cultural battles.”

The American Family Association…the same facism that fueled segregation, the Nazis, the genocides in the Balkan peninusla…

They gave up on Disney after 9 years. Since Ford already has some problems, it makes it easier for the yahoos to declare their boycott successful.

fords knows that the gay community has alot of expendable income, so of course they will cater to them…and not the ignorant bigots.

Isn’t For remaining neutral by advertising in pretty much every publication?

Or is neutral to these assholes only advertising for what they approve of?

Sad… Every other car company markets to Gay people right now, its just subtle. These people have no clue. Keep in mind though, that this is probably a small useless group of people.

Hey do you think Henry ford would of wanted ford to market to gays? No way! these car companies need to keep to thier roots, its like Porsche when it came out with the Cayanne, do you think Ferdinand Porsche would have wanted porsche to sell that (even though its thier pest selling model)? Hell no, hell he wouldnt even of wanted them to switch to water cooled. so just think about that when you consider if ford should openly market to gays.

First of all, Henry Ford wanted to make automobiles and then sell them for a PROFIT. Still, companies need to stick to their mission statement.

AFA is unlikely to impact Ford’s bottomline. I would tend to think that a company that markets only to fringe organizations like AFA is going nowhere fast anyway.

Why is AFA has chosen Ford in particular is beyond me, but suffice to say that this is a losing battle and everyone at AFA probably already knows this.

I can only assume that’s sarcasm Alex. If companies “stuck to their roots”, Mercedes would still make 3-wheeled wagons with 1 hp.

Like everything else in the world, you evolve or you die.

no mercedes wouldn,t the founders of mercedes believed in building luxury cars, To date, merceds hasn’t really violated this alot. What i mean by roots is for example Ferdinand Porsche wanted to build SPORTS cars, not SUV’s or sedans (that new Panamera thing) Ferdinannd Porsche is rolling over in his grave, i’m sure.
I also think that marketing to gays hurts ford more than it helps, after all, what strait guy is going to buy a car thats made for gays? I’m not for sure.

I dont see why the AFA should really care who Ford market their cars to? after all, wouldn’t gay people buy a Ford if they decided that a Ford was the car that they wanted to drive?

and what are these said “cultural battles”? the battle between gays and religious fanatics? or the battle between black people and white people? or the battle of communism vs capatilism? Seriously, get real, its a bloody ad!!

ford markets to anybody who has money…gays make more money per capita than any other group of people so of course ford wants to cater to them…and they are not marketing any specific model, just the brand name FORD…how is spreading hatefull ignorant bigoted values somehow linked to “family” they make me sick…if there was something as ridiculous as a devil he would be very proud of the evil they and all the organized religeons of the world spread.

To answer alex’s question about straight men driving gay cars…look at Audi. But in all seriousness, why would antiquated religious beliefs of few have any effect on how a corporation is run? It’s stupid and shockingly egotistical for these groups to think it’s ok for them to tell a company like Ford how to run a business. Morality in business? Please…. I bet these people shop at Wal-Mart, the single most immoral corporation there is.

If you think it is insignificat, consider that I work in a Ford, Lincoln, Mercury dealership and I personally lost two sales over this issue, with two of my previous customers, last summer when this boycott was first announced. On bought a Buick and the other a Chrysler. Ford came back to the table and said they would work with AFA and then renigged in the end. It has more to do with policies and corporate giving than it does with advertising to G/L/B/T. The media wants it to be about advertising, because they think the world revolves around them. Regardless of what you believe, it definitely has had an impact on dealers. Conservatives are the majority here in the midwest and they do vote with their pocket books.

Funny, Sec, I hadn’t noticed the fact that I recently pulled anything over on anyone. As a matter of fact, my sales and my earnings have increased each of the going on 13 years that I have been in sales. Last year I earned over 80K and sold 221 vehicles, not from ripping people off, but because I have built a book of repeat and referral business, with people who know that I deal with everyone with honesty and integrity. It is really unfortunate that there are dealers in all areas of the business, Toyota and Honda dealers included, that are nothing but crooks. (The Toyota dealer in our town is a great example of this.) The average salesperson in this business, all dealers nationwide, is selling an average 11 cars a month and earning around 30K, data provided by NADA. Our company has earned The President’s Award, given annually by our customer surveys, for Sales and Service, 5 of the least 6 years. This award is only given to the top >1% of a F/L/M dealers. My personal customer satisfaction rating is at 97%, based on a pass-fail system, with very satisfied being a failing score. So lumping me and my dealership with all dealers doesn’t work in your theory.
As far as FoMoCo making bad decisions, I won’t disagree, but I feel Bill and Mark and Co. are trying to guide the ship in the right direction. I have no idea if they can accomplish this, I hope for the sake of our economy, they can.
Please, Sec, I do have to question your judgement, no offense meant, in your swearing on Darwin and his theory, which anyone with any knowledge of scientific fact and research over the last 100+ years, knows is a lie and has no legs. (No pun intended) Einstein’s theories actualy build the case for ID, and God. Sorry, you picked the wrong battle to start on that.

As far as the Zephyr goes, I guess the customer voting with their pocketbook, once again, speaks louder than your theory. Our average days in stock is under 21 and we are selling them around list price, less incentives, of course.

Wow. CTR, you started out respectably, but then just turned into a huge douchebag. Impressive. By the way, I’ll never buy a Ford, not on my life. My girlfriend owns a Focus, and it’s been nothing but ****. Whether the dealers are good or not doesn’t matter to me if I have to be back there every month.

Monkey, I am curious, in what way? Did I say something that offended you? Nowhere did I attack you or Sec. I was trying to state facts. I would really appreciate it if you could give me a clue to what you are referring. Hey, if you don’t like Fords, don’t buy one, I won’t lose sleep on it. But don’t bash my integrity or for trying to earn a living.
