1. The Viper has been tested against the Z06 at tracks and has been found to be slightly better in handling.
2. The Z06 is pretty much even with the Porsche 911 Turbo in everything, but cheaper in price and interior quality.

It all depends on what you personally prefer. The Vette and 911 are easier city-drivers than the Viper, since it’s made to be the rich man’s muscle car. The best bang-for-buck car is the Z06. And history means absolutely nothing. Your incredible racing and street history can’t change the fact that an old-fashioned pushrod engine is smacking down your state-of-the-art tubercharged flat-six.

But even then, the Subaru Impreza has the International Engine of the Year under its hood.

JC2 The Viper engine did originall come from the V10 used in the Ram Pickups. It was just in aluminium not iron.

The Viper does not even use a traditional frame it uses a unibody like nearly all modern vehicles do.

The Type 911 Porsche has been redesigned over and over it is not like they are still using the same chassis from 1964 .What are you thinking? They are on the third major iteration of the type 911 design currently but they have updated it continiously over the years.

Bennifer… the Viper is not a truck. It has NOTHING to do anything with trucks, possibly besides for the frame (is the frame from a truck?). The Viper can do fair when it comes to handling.
And how long do you think the Porsche 911 has been around? 1964, which it was a replacement for the 356. How long has the Viper been around for? 1993? ANd it had no predeccesor, so they designed it from the floor up. Yeah, big difference in time it took to create, and price.

Many posters have explained themselves in their posts. Some people just want a huge loud engine.

Some people just to not respect the more refined car and I think if you look at the majority of US made cars you notice that handling is not a major concern.

Myself when I think about a car I am going to use on the street I do not see anything over 300BHP as being all that big of a deal, but I do want better brakes, suspension and interior refinement.

You like what you like. Myself I prefer not to spend over 40k on a car it just seems like a waste of money.

or if i needed to show off or was on a date, then id take the vette. but if i just wanted a pure muscle machine, my pick would be the viper. the porsche, meh, its nice, but it just dosn’t have the toughness of the vette or the viper. i mean, with the quite 6cyl, the circle headlights, and the fact that its a porsche, its just not bold enough.

also in Autoweek a few weeks ago they did a wrap up of a 911 S long term tester. the one writer said something like “Now i understand why the guys that can afford the $30,000 over a corvette do it. Things that would be white knuckle events in a corvette are “one hand ont he wheel” events in the 911″ and the writer owned a Corvette.

The 911 is the classiest of the bunch with history to match. The C6 Vette finally has looks that match performance; was always (C4 & C5) to soft looking. Now it is a bit edgier with a hint of Ferrari design elements. The Viper was a gimic in the 90s to help Chrysler with the Dodge brand. While impressive, it lacks the lineage of it’s competitors.

in every test i see of these cars the 911 wins. they always say its the easiest to drive fast, or drive slow. thats why they sell so many. it can do so many diff jobs

Porsche can only do so much with a rear-engined configuration. There are many negative inherent handeling traits, and the engineers in stuggart have done a comendable job minimizing these traits ofer the last 40 years… but those traits still exist. At the track, the viper is the winner of these three. on the streets, I can easily see how the viper fell behind the Z06 and 911.
