Consumer Reports takes a look at the most-improved models of 2005. These include Nissan’s redesign of the Xterra, which has moved it “from being among the worst in its class to among the best” and Infiniti’s redesigned M35 that is now the magazine’s highest-rated sedan. For 2005, Mercedes made the redesigned SLK “more fun behind the wheel with precise steering, dramatically improved acceleration and agility.” Replacing the aged Seville, the Cadillac STS is “a hit among consumers, providing agile handling with a taut, supple, controlled ride.” On the other hand, Consumer Reports says the new BMW 530i “failed to meet [the] high standards” established by its predecessor. Meanwhile, the Lexus GS300 is a mixed bag: “The GS is quiet and refined, and has mostly intuitive controls. But the handling lacks agility, steering is short on feedback, and the cabin is tight.”
