Contest: Share your thoughts – win SEMA passes!

10/21/2009, 1:43 AM

By Mark Kleis

It’s that time of year again – SEMA is just around the corner and of course Leftlane is going to be there. This year however, up to four of you will be given the opportunity to join us at SEMA in Las Vegas.

I recently learned that as one of Ford’s more “automotive enthusiast” oriented Fiesta agents (see my Fiesta Notebook), I was going to be given four SEMA passes that would be good for access to the show from November 3-6, 2009. Of course, I already have access so I figured Left Lane News’ readers wouldn’t mind a shot at some free SEMA tickets. While there you are free to roam and enjoy the show, and will also have an opportunity to meet some Leftlane staffers.

The catch? Transportation and accommodations are up to you. But as many of you probably know, SEMA is closed to the public so access like this is hard to come by – so finding your own way there is a small price to pay for the free access to all that automotive eye candy.

So how do you score that free SEMA pass? Tell or show us a specific suggestion or concept that you would like to see enacted on Leftlane in the near future. Keep it limited to a few paragraphs if you choose to write a response, or limit it to three minutes if you decide to make your entry a video that you post on YouTube.

If you are drawing a blank on that option, your other option is to come up with a creative and original idea for some Ford Fiesta content for your fellow Leftlane readers. Come up with the basis for a great featured content piece involving the Ford Fiesta that we currently have through the Fiesta Movement, and share it in writing or on YouTube.

(Check out www.FiestaMovement.com for an idea of what kind of content is already out there) Some possible Fiesta content ideas would include short videos, a unique comparison and/or review, or something else that you believe would be possible for us to create with our Fiesta.

We will review our entries, which will be open from Tuesday October 20th through Saturday October 24th. We will contact the winners on the following Monday, October 26th.

Winners will be given a pair of tickets for full access to the SEMA show from November 3rd through November 6th. In addition to the tickets, Ford has some Fiesta goodies for you, and if you stick around until Friday, November 6th you may also get to go for a spin in Mark’s Panther Black Fiesta on the streets of Las Vegas!

Now get those creative juices flowing and win some FREE SEMA passes!

E-mail us your entry to LeftLaneSEMA@gmail.com and be sure to include your first and last name, location (city and state), preference of one or two tickets, and of course, your unique suggestion. Individuals are limited to one entry per person, but you can make one suggestion PER OPTION, for a total of two suggestions. If you create a YouTube entry be sure to include the link to view your entry in the e-mail. Please write your suggestion in either Microsoft Word or in the body of the e-mail.

I will keep my recommendation simple: LLN should change such that all its content is filtered and edited thru Need More Oil For GM for enhanced intellectual content.

Ok ok, I couldn’t make the show’s timeframe even if I won so hence my suggestion.

Through out the past months, there have been many people who sign-up, not because they are enthusiasts, but because they are a second member taking over another members name and adding a slight variation to it. I think everyone here knows what I’m talking about. Hint: Need More Oil For GM!!!
It seems like we stray away from the car aspect of this website and shift towards trying to attack members of this site.
There needs to be some moderators on this forum who…moderate!!! There are members on here who are only here to show their biased opinion, which is WAY over the top. It needs to be stopped! SERIOUSLY!
I used to love going to this while I was doing my AD in Industrial Design…because it fit in VERY well while not having so many D-bags on the forum, but now, it’s not the same. I doesn’t really matter anymore if I miss a day with LLN. I used to care if I missed it back then, but I have come to realize that if you come late to a posting, you miss all the crap talk that is USUALLY off topic. I came on LLN because it was a GREAT car forum with up-to-date news, now though, I have found so many other forums that do exactly what a real enthusiast wants; new info, custom cars, setup sheets, all while limiting spam and moderating comments! It’s great over there! So, LLN, you can glitter this place all up, but, unless you place a moderator, who sees new members coming in, and goes through the forum members postings, this place will continue to become useless to real car enthusiasts, but continue to grow into an argumentative car forum!

On the side note, another great add to LLN would be the ability to chat with members through some kind of chat system, whether that be an actual on-site chat system, or an inbox system, it would make LLN that much better. Compared to all the other sites out there, I’m surprised we haven’t had this implemented into LLN…

Moderation will kill the site, idrin. You’ll end up with a joke of a site like TTAC where only approved messages get thru. The last post I made on TTAC was politely dismissive of something with Volvo, and the post was deleted and I was reprimanded via email (by Farago directly) for it. My response to Farago was less polite, and I never went back.

Moderation is for the thin skinned. You might say it will keep it to enthusiasts only, but face it – to get ad revenue a site needs hits, and controversy and whatnot keeps people coming back. If you limit the info to a few people parroting “ferraris are cool” no one will come back. In that vein I have sometimes wondered if NMOFGM, 1115, and Dr Fool are LLN plants to stir it up and run up hits – even if you dont like the BS they keep it interesting. Plus no one forces anyone to read a post here – you can skip to the next one.

Mods are for nothing but political correctness and the spineless wimps who require that in their pathetic, intellectually weak lives.

Who ever said moderating levels had to be set on top of the same bar?
“Keep it interesting…” How so? It’s usually completely off topic! Read my post again and you might just understand my reasoning, which is not accurate with your view as moderating in general!

smeg, i’ve commented before (back when i didn’t always ignore nmofgm) that he was an LLN plant…imo it’s definitely not the same guy it used to be, because his use of language changed, which made him seem like more of a plant…and more of a reason to ignore those troll posts and anybody trolling the troll, too…at the end of the day, though, i find it a bit disingenuous of LLN and not part of good faith business…i note the advertisers here, and when i feel like i’m drowning in trolls i pay special attention of what i’m not going to be buying…

I think it would just be wierd to meet people who post on here regularly more than anything… I have been planning to goto Las Vegas since I started the new job, but it’s on Nov 3rd? That’s only a couple weeks off guys, I know as far as wher eI work if I asked off for that week I’d be sent off permanently – although it might be worth it…

On a note about what NOT TO DO on this website – make the comment section seperate from the articals like Edmuunds and C&D do, as well as make multiple pages on a single thread – it makes it choppy and hard to understand. No replies like autoflog either. Just don’t change a thing about the comments section LLN – that’s my biggest suggestion!

Another enhancement I would make is to the search function for past articles. If what I want is available I cant seem to get to it, but articles should be searchable by manufacturer and maybe model. I should be able to say “show me Infiniti articles for the FX” and get a reverse chronological list of posts so I can read up on history or go back for some information. The basic format here at LLN is pretty good, and the current commenting system is great.

The car reseach aspect also seems to need work. The overview part seems to lack content, often talking more about the company than the car.

BTW – if I win these ticket by some odd, slim chance, I’ll give them away to someone on this site who is a regular poster and not a troll.

I wouldn’t mind sharing my second ticket with someone on here. Would be kind of cool.

I don’t know where LLN gets their “new” information from, but I can almost always find the same info somewhere else earlier. It would be nice if we could beat someone to it for once!

I like that search tip!

Zesty,

Can you understand what you read? Because it honestly looks like you don’t!
I said “you are the exact reason why this forum sucks!” Meaning you, and the other people like you, make this forum look bad. LLN Used to be AWESOME! If you would have read my first comment clearly to begin with, you would have understood that commenting just to attack, is stupid, shows nothing but the fact that you know how to run off your mouth! Case and point: YOUR COMMENT!
“I suggest you move to Iran or China! You’ll feel right at home!” Grow up!!! Not everyone on this forum is a child like you!
If you have something productive to say about this topic, go ahead and say it, if you nothing else to say, or something which has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, or anything negative, GTFU! There are plenty of other forums out there for useless people like you. All you do is degrade this forum.
And don’t act like you know what is going on either. I’ve been here, along with many other people, for way longer than you, and can tell you that the difference between how LLN is today, and how it was a year ago, is comparable to getting your hair cut with a scissor vs. a chainsaw! While the chainsaw sounds cool, you don’t want to come near it!
