Cop suspended for playing both sides in traffic law

09/22/2006, 7:06 PM

By admin

A Montreal police officer who also ran a legal advice firm for traffic offenders has been suspended without pay for conflict of interest. Sgt. Alfredo Munoz was a supervisor by night and operator of SOS Ticket by day. His company provides legal representation for motorists charged with traffic offenses. “How can you be a police officer who supervises other police officers, who may at times give out tickets, and at the same time have a company where you give advice to people about contesting these tickets?” asked Inspector Paul Chablo, head of the Montreal police force’s media relations department. Munoz uses the knowledge he gains in law enforcement to potentially help offenders beat the system. “We find it unacceptable that an officer would undo the work of another officer,” spokesman Martin Viau said.

For his help to motorists to aviod being convicted for speeding violations, he deserves a medal of honor. There is no honor in a system which costs otherwise law abiding people time, money and headache. I hope that his business succeeds.

The school thing was some crazy. Typical blaming of video games and goth stuff.

This helps to further expose the fact that traffic citations are a scam that has very little to do with public safety and a lot to do with making money.

This is clearly the police department trying to scam people for more money.

If what Mr. Munoz does at both jobs is legal, there is nothing wrong with that.
It’s like being a judge, a prosecutor lawyer, and a defender lawyer. You can play any side because it’s all legal.
Does the police have evidence that what SOS Ticket does is illegal? If SOS Ticket is legal, they are merely defending people from unjust prosecution.

We find it unacceptable that the state runs a money racket.

Jameson… — your comment , “There is no honor in a system which costs otherwise law abiding people time, money and headache. ” It is perfect.

It is just another way to control

Fark the Police. Although you have to something pretty bad to get arrested in Montreal, did I mention what a kick-ass town that is?

There is nothing wrong with Alfredo Munoz aiding the public. All it says is that he is fair and objective as opposed to police who are subjective.A subjective cop is as bad or worse than a criminal.
