According to a Montana Chevrolet dealer, the bow-tie automaker will revive the Corvette Grand Sport label in both coupe and convertible forms for 2010. Even though sales of Corvettes are sluggish – just as they are throughout the market – GM has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to the Corvette brand.
Ken Fichtner of Fitchner Chevrolet in Billings, Montana, posted on CorvetteForum.com that Chevrolet will offer six models of the Corvette for 2010: the standard coupe and convertible, Z06, ZR1 and, new for 2010, the Grand Sport in both coupe and convertible variants.
Fichtner didn’t spill the beans on just what the Grand Sport will entail – and without any details, we won’t speculate too much for now on this new model, which is likely to slot below the Z06 but above the base models.
It has been a busy season for Corvettes, despite the overall trend away from buying new cars, let alone new, high performance cars. The 2009 Corvette Competition Sport and the GT1 Championship Edition made their appearances earlier this year.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see GM announce the new Corvette model at the New York International Auto Show next week.

This might be good/might NOT be good. GM is in financial turmoil, so a super 700+ hp, $200,000+ Corvette could be a bad thing for GM. However, I’m happy that GM is sticking to Corvette; it’s part of their heritage.

How would “Ken Fichtner of Fitchner Chevrolet in Billings, Montana” know so much about this? Hes just a dealer i didn’t think they were given this much information, especially before it’s even announced to the public. And isn’t he gunna get in big trouble for this? Even though GM may have bigger problems to focus on right now, but still

200grand plus? it says they are speculating that it will be a mid range model between the base and Z06
i think they should make this, then if the Solstice gets killed off along side the Sky, bring back the Stingray name and sell it for 30-35 thousand and put it on the same Kappa platform

Bets that GM’s impending bankruptcy will mean no 2010 Corvettes are produced at all? Anyone? Anyone?

Ha ha stingray. My dad had the 72 stingray. That is about the only thing I feel bad about gms failure and closure in the future.
But when you think about it. when is the last time there was a nice vette.
On the other hand. F@ck it. Let them fail. It was a heap of sh@t.

My guess is that someone will buy Corvette (car and trademark) way before Hummer. It belongs to Chevy like a zit to Catherine Zeta-Jones.

@NMO4Gm: the vette is a perfect car, its exactly what it should be and no other company can claim what Chevy does with the Vette for the price…. the ZR1 is an amazing vehicle
and for that reason i dont think anyone can poke fun at a corvette.
also, where do you get this “GM’s closure news from?”…

“It belongs to Chevy like a zit to Catherine Zeta-Jones.”
Proving, as usual, that you’re just another ignorant GM hater with poor grammar, (not in that sentence, but in general, it’s painful to read your posts, for a number of reasons).
Who does the Corvette belong to, if not Chevrolet? If you’re going to hold their mistakes against them, you have to give them credit for their successes. And Catherine Zeta-Jones is a no talent has-been.
I wonder what they’re planning for this. Another stab at OHC maybe? I know that was the ZR1, but that car has a new formula.

I wish they would stop with all of these special edition paint and sticker models, and put some money in giving the Corvette a new interior for 2010. The interior of the C6 is the only thing that bugs me about the car. And I own a 2002 C5.
Bring the Corvette’s interior up to the same standard as the new CTS’, put some nice Recaro seats in there, and call it a day. The automotive journalists would have very little to complain about then!

Does your analogy with Catherine Zeta-Jones have anything to do with GM’s Zeta platform?

If you’ve heard of the Zeta platform, you should know none of those comments apply to the chassis. I also think Chevy’s doing a pretty good job of offering very differently defined Corvette models, not just paint and sticker deals. The Z06, ZR1, and this new competition package seem like pretty serious and diverse models. It’s not like they’re making a Corvette version of the Sunfire GTX.
