Critics slam McDonald’s over Hummer toys

08/10/2006, 7:31 AM

By admin

Environmental groups are appalled with McDonalds for putting toy Hummers in children’s Happy Meal boxes, according to the New York Times. Called the “Hummer of a Summer” promotion, the campaign also features TV and radio ads, which started running this week, feature a family riding in a Hummer on the way to McDonald’s. “The technology is passe,” said clean energy analyst Brendan Bell. “For the H1 and H2, they’re running it off an engine that hasn’t been fundamentally redesigned since 1950s. What the next generation needs is better technology in our vehicles so that we can cut our dependence on oil and curb global warming.” In a written statement, Bill Lamar, McDonald’s chief marketing officer, said the promotion was intended to bring “the fun and excitement of Hummer vehicles” to “McDonald’s youngest guests.”

Oh get over it, its just a commercial – kids on the way to McDonalds in a car – big deal. Don’t you think we have bigger problems to address in this world than that? I would be more concerned about the amount of fat in the burgers! If you have one or those things, drive it with your kids to McDonalds-they will love it.

Why dont those environmental groups just critic all the cars that runs with fossil fuel? And if they can say it , why dont just let them redesign the engine for the Hummer?

Oh, for the love of Oprah, what’s next? Stop using steel for skyscapers? Wood is more environment friedly, isn’t it?

Since they have so much to say it would seem to me that they could just do something instead of whining and crying about it. To me, they just look like a bunch of spoiled little girls. “clean energy analyst” – sounds like a very useful job. Well, it would be if they would actually get together and instead of hugging trees and admiring bird crap on their shoulders all day long rather get together some brain power (they do have some, right? if not, why not stop wasting everybody’s time, money and whatnot and actually go study something useful like mechanical engineering) paper and pencils and just come up with a solution to the problem. God knows all manufacturers are the same. If it’s good enough and chepar to build than what we have now they’ll adopt it in no time.

Then they could happily drive their kind of anorexic-looking kids and themselves to happy soya mcmeal something and actually make their kids proud by telling them they were a part of the group that changed the world for the better!

I’m going to go to McDonalds and buy about 10 happy meals now. I don’t really eat hamburgers so I’ll give them all away to needy kids. This’ll give them something to eat and a toy to play with… Oh, but I guess that wouldn’t be PC.

They could at least get there technical info right. The H1 is discontinued now and before it was it used the Duramax engine which is a state of the art diesel motor.

Oh, believe me, they are ALL targets. Remember Gore said the “internal combustion engine is the greatest threat to civilization.” The Hummer and other SUV’s are simply the first in a series of targets. Remember oil and oil companies are bad and if we can figure out a way to not need them then we can get rid of them for good.

That’s of course ignoring the fact that only 15% of the crude oil is used for gasoline production, but why let reality color their world?

People need to lighten up. Next they’re gonna get all over Hotwheels and Matchbox cars being put into Happy Meals because they mimick monstrousoties.

Like NW Mike said only 15% of crude oil is for gasoline production, so these enviromental groups next will be saying things like plastics are going to kill us all. Of course they won’t win on that, almost 100% of the stuff we use these days has some sort of plastic in it.

British_rover, they won’t get their tech info right because 1) they know NOTHING about automobiles, and 2) can’t let those pesky facts get in the way of spewing their bull****.

This is the exact same mentality that drove a few morons to torch some H2’s at a dealership a few years ago, releasing more toxic substances into the air than those vehicles would have blown through their tailpipes in their entire service life.

Hey, me and my girlfriend eat at Mc’donalds every day, for both lunch and dinner. It is high quality food just like Hummer builds a high quality truck. If some greening weenie doesn’t see that then they are blind dumb****s.

I can’t wait until 2009 when my girlfriend and I ride thru the McDonalds drive thru in style when we get our new Camaro. I can see it now, everybody is going to be stopping us to check out our hot wheels (and my hot gf of course). I think I’ll order an extra McCheeseburger for every person who asks me about my car

My deer should come with bigger antlers. Then we should go around for some other reason. Then there are the loud ATV’s buzzing around the farm. We need gas for them too! How is it that we cannot manage that. It must be the fault of others. Yet others cannot fathom that it be their fault. It soon becomes one of the mysteries of the universe. Teewit-tewah.

The H2 uses a small-block Chevy engine, but you don’t see the ecomentalists pissing and moaning about the Corvette or Imapala. The Smallblock is a time-tested American institution. If it wasn’t such a versatile engine, offering excellent bang for the buck, it would have been “fundamentally redesigned”. Essentially what the ecomentalists are complaining about with the H2 is that the block in the Hummer is similar to the original small block block, as 6,0 litres is a relatively new displacement for General Motors. Forget about all the advances in head technology, fuel injection, lightweight materials, etc.

Once again liberal mindset telling the majority of Americans how we should live, think, eat, drive and now what the wring toys in a Happymeal are. These people need real jobs. I once saw a guy from Earthfirst putting anti-suv leaflets on cars in a shopping center parking lot. I gave mine back to him as he was getting ready to leave driving his late early 80’s , blue smokin, gas guzzling, emissions releasing Mercury Grand Marquis. I laughed at him through his open drivers windo as he drove off in a cloud of smoke. window. Idiot. They are well known for showing up at protests driving in rented extend wheelbase fullsize vans. Maybe they should walk? Liberal mindset is why this country is in the shape it is in. It would be nice to get some feedback from some liberals but they are not car people so I doubt any are on here.

Temperatures are reaching all time highs and you think just because people are concerned about the environment, our childrens future and the fate of mankind, you can label them as crazy left wing radicals. Open your eyes and look how we are destorying the environment.

Is it warmer where you are? Probably. Do you wish to carry on your blood line and secure a prosperous future for your offspring ? I hope you don’t have children but if you decide to fill this planet with more idiots then wouldn’t it be better for them if they could breath and eat actual food? Think about what’s happening and what’s going to happen before you start that childish name game of liberal this and liberal that. This isn’t about politics or tree huggin it’s about life. If you think you are rightous then act accordingly. The earth will not survie this abuse. You know better and your children’s children deserve better.

Mock me as you want but your children, and mine, will pay for your ignorance.

As for the article, yeah it is just a toy but kids are impressionable and they need grown ups to show them the way.
