Customizer builds long-wheelbase Lamborghini for Shaq

05/02/2007, 10:25 AM

By Nick

For some celebrities, a regular Lamborghini just doesn’t cut it. 50 Cent gave his an all-chrome paint job, and Bam Margera of “Jackass” famously cut a sunroof into his Murcielago using a saw. For basketball start Shaquille O’Neal, his Lamborghini modifications were made, not out of vanity, but necessity.

Standing 7 ft 1 in and weighing 325 lbs, a regular Gallardo is understandably cramped. That’s where Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters came in. The firm stretched O’Neal’s car 12 inches through the middle with custom extended doors, roof and side windows.

The biggest challenge with a project like this was fabricating the glass while maintaining the proportions of the lines, making everything bigger,” says GFMI Chief Executive Officer George Gaffoglio. “We relied on our aerospace and coachworks divisions to make sure Shaq could fit in the car, but the naked eye could not detect any differences from the original Gallardo.”

Just to let Everyone know Bam cut a sunroof into a Gallardo. He probably would be missing if he did that to a Murcielago!!!

haha, this is why I like being relatively short… I can fit in all kinds of nice sports cars. ever tried to sit in a BMW Z4? now that even felt a little small for me!

I’m 6′2″ and let me tell you it’s not easy being a car enthusiast. Most small sports cars are deathtraps to me.
Miata, Solstice, Exige,Elise, S2000.. I could go on but you see the problem. I guess I have more leg than most people my height. Dunno. I can seriously see why Shaq would do this to a perfectly good car. I did fit in a Z4 (auto) but not a Cayman/Boxter.

Anyway the car looks wrong at first but looks better as you stare longer.

FY Bam didn’t really cut into his gallardo. It was faked.

American fighter pilots used to say that engineers are all short that’s why the ****pits are amall.
I think it has more to do with weight, center of gravity etc you know, physics stuff.

You better call Lamborghini to do this job, than an after market screwdriver swinger. This car is seriously fast, didn’t they just think about that at Sant’Agata-Bolognese when they were engineering the Gallardo and its structures? Shaq, remember my words, when you’re hitting 150 mph…

The stretch is far from undetectable, but it seems to have been handled pretty well.. the window area is the most obvious, the lines don’t quite match up.. but unless they cut a Flintstones-style hole in the floorboards, where else would Shaq put his legs in a regular Lambo?

Why? Because he can. Shaq has a rather impressive list of rides modified for him. I loved his classic Lincoln Continental. This was pretty extreme, but modding rides to fit is nothing new. I sat in a modified porsche 968 convertible belonging to former NBA center Kevin Duckworth. I couldn’t drive it if I wanted to, cause I couldn’t reach the controls! Duck also had a wild Bronco from the late ’80’s that was a mile high, and had a sound system any movie house would envy.

LOL :)

Bam has two Lambos, and he and Billy Idol actually cut a sunroof in his purple Gallardo, not Murciealgo, his Blue Murciealgo is a spider, so it would be kind of difficult to cut a sunroof on that.

5′9 is average for a male. I’m that and I fit in most cars fine. Fighter Jets have little room in them so most pilots are under 6′. I sat in a solstice once, I’m a little heavy so it was a tight fit, I never was one for shelled go karts like that.
