Customizer drops V10 into new M3

08/14/2007, 11:24 AM

By Nick

German auto parts retailer Bremgo has shoehorned a 500 horsepower V10 powerplant into a 2008 BMW M3 project car. Borrowed from a BMW M5 or M6, the engine delivers 507 horsepower — a significant increase of the M3’s stock 420 horsepower V8.

The M3’s six-speed manual has also been replaced with a seven-speed SMG gearbox from the donor car. Various other enhancements include wheels from AC Schnitzer, a Hartge steering wheel, carbon fiber interior accents, and sportier seats.

Alriiiigght, let see how much weight we can put into the front of a use-to-be-perfectly-balanced-car.

Saw the Hartge version a while back. M5/M6 performance in a 3 series… what’s not to like? It should go like stink, and sound awesome.

Andre Neves:

There’s only an estimated 110lb difference between the M5/M6 V10 and the Twin Turbo I-6 in the 335i. A set of heavy chrome wheels… or a fat girlfriend in the passenger seat would do a helluva lot more to ruin the balance of the 3 series coupe than this motor swap. And don’t forget the healthy increase in power either. I’d say it’s a fair trade off.

This is a very cool ride. I love the look of it but I hate the rims. Maybe one day BMW will produce a 500 horse-powered 3 series car. We can only hope.

How about customizing a BMW so it actually runs? That would be far more impressive.

yummy. GM_SALES..cmon, what would you recommend to people instead of this baby? A STS-V? I don’t think so. Although the upcoming CTS-V sounds pretty impressive…

wait i dont think this is an M3…look at the rev counter and the speedo. It doesnt have ///M on it and it only goes up to 280kph and the rev cam only shows up to 8000rpm. In the m3 doesnt it have a 320kph speedo and rev cam shows up to 9000rpm

I am sure it’ll go real nice but I have NEVER liked bimmers or Porches either for that matter… overpriced and under powered VW’s (the porches anyway)….

jamaicandude, was unaware of the small difference in weight. I guess those are the advantages of having an aluminum block.
GL1,
*PORSCHES are under powered VW’s according to you. That just shows how little you actually know about them. Simply put, YOUR AN IDIOT.

Porsches are NOT VWs. The Porsche family controls both companies, but they’re not part of some umbrella structure
