Customizer gives Infiniti G35 an Aston grille

10/18/2006, 12:58 PM

By admin

Japanese car customizer DAMD has put together a kit for the Infiniti G35 to give it an Aston Martin-inspired grille and front fascia. It’s not the first time we’ve seen a Japanese car transformed into an Aston. Back in July, an Australian company rebodied a Mazda MX-5 Miata to look like a vehicle from the British exotic carmaker.

DAMD’s kits are less aggressive — they only provide a new grille, leaving most of the car (including headlights and taillights) untouched. Packages are available for the G35 Coupe (Skyline in Japan), Nissan 350Z, and Mazda MX-5. Gallery after the jump…

I”m not even sure why this is newsworthy. These customizers always SUCK!! They ruin everything. I have yet to see a customized car grace these pages that is actually cool (aside from the commissioned Enzo a while back.)

Oh Lord. I’m sure the guys at DAMD think it looks really cool. I’ll bet the guys at Infiniti are horrified.

The quality of the “nose job” looks significantly lower than that of the rest of the car; that’s suprising, considering that DAMD is a Japanese company.

I have to say I agree with most everybody here. The DB9 and G35 Coupe are quite possibly the nicest looking cars on the road today. Unfortunately, melding the two does not produce a desireable result. I suspect the problem is that the Aston has the mouth of a fish and the G35 (and the 350Z, for that matter) has the eyes of a fish. Now, instead of something that has fish-esque design cues, we have a fish. And not a good looking fish, either. It’s very bottom-feeder-ish.

The Miata isn’t horrible, but it’s certainly not good.

DAMD should team up with Geiger to put the Aston grille on a Hummer. Or a Hummer grille on an Aston. Wait, how about a Lada Samara with the Spoiler/Airbrake setup from the Veyron.

I like what they did with the G35 except for the grill (which was the whole pont). But I think I just fell in love with that MX-5. I don’t care what anyone says. Still, the grill isn’t what makes me feel that way about the MX-5 either. Which sort of makes this whole project pointless in my eyes.

i prefer the understated and hidden approach to smoking you rather than bloating the actual numbers under the hood, theres no point to it, and if i really wanted to, id buy a civic and pretend it was a ferrari. thats the thing about audi buyer you knob gobbler, they buy them because they dont turn heads, not so they can pretend theyre something better.

While I’m not a huge fan of these kits, I would like to say that I love the rims they picked for all the cars. Very tasteful. That said, I don’t mind the kit on the Miata too much, and if I could see some more pics of it, I might even be able to say I like it. I’d also be curious to see how much better the kits would look on the Nissans if there wasn’t that gap between the kit and the hood. But with the gap, I definately wouldn’t ever consider getting it.

I’m surprised there haven’t been any one-offs or anything… I just looked on some automotive posts and there are rumors that a drop-top version will be unveiled at the Frankfurt before summer 2007. Anyone know anything about it?

They even changed the interior, and I love the color they use. I seriously want that car, but I’d seriously want it with the original grill. Not because it looks horrible, but because – like with the G35- who wants a nice car pretending to be another nice car?

Yeah exactly, it won’t fool anyone. I’d take it without the grill though. I’ve always wanted them to throw a convertible G35 into the mix, even though I would still go for the coupe if they did (unless maybe it was a hardtop). That’s a pretty nice photoshopped version there. I haven’t heard any rumors but I don’t suspect they’ll be unveiling any convertible outgoing models, they’ll probably wait for the new ones. Does Infinity have ONE convertible?
